If you are a duck hunter in the south, then your favorite time of year is getting extremely close! By this point, most blinds have been brushed, and dogs have been put back into hunt mode with some backyard training sessions after work. With all of the hype of season nearing our hunting grounds, there is something that truly drives me crazy every year about this time. The all-knowing waterfowl guy who can only mutter the words “there ain’t no ducks to even go huntin after,” every time you see him.
Now don’t get me wrong, at times the sky does seem to be void of any waterfowl, but when you step back and look at the big picture the truth of it is that there are more ducks than any time in history dating back to the first duck counts. There are more dollars put toward conserving the habitat of those birds and there are arguably more hunters than ever before. So what if there is more food north or south of you or if there seem to be hunters around every tree. That just sounds like an excuse to reach out make a few new friends and capitalize on the opportunity to hunt new places!
Now get the oily rag out of your cleaning kit and show some love to your shotgun and do what you do best and go hunt! Oh, it doesn’t hurt to let someone new tag along from time to time as well. I mean, after all, somebody in your past invited you to go at some point.
