What, no stop in Friar's Point?

I am disappointed!

Sounds like that boat is covering some ground.

Just past Natchez @ 3:00 a.m. doing about 16 mph downbound!

This past afternoon, I got to take pics of Chotard Chute and boy was it LOW. Barley a trickle of water flowing out! No Teal spotted yet! Soon we will go through the locks at Old River and continue down the Atchafalaya River to Morgan City where the MRC will be hosted tonight for drinks and dinner at Carline's Duck Camp! Carline owns a towing co. so you know the "camp" will be more like a mansion! Then it is on to Houma for the last of our public hearings at 9am. Fri. Any of you South La. boys wanna "pass a good time", come on down to the Cenac Towing Co. Docks in Houma. Bill Collector, This could be another good "field trip".

We are in "Da Bayou" now! Tied up this morning at 4:30 after running the Intracostal Waterway from Morgan City to here. We are at the Cenac Towing dock located just south of the ICW on the Houma Navigation canal. True gator country as they are everywhere. The public meeting is now over and we will depart here @6p.m. headed for Vicksburg to end this here dog and pony show! Had two democrats from the crew get into it this morning. I think they are making arrangments to get them off of here as violence is the work place is NOT tolarated by the "guvment"! One of them is a real shat stirrer so the officers are glad to see him GO!

The ragin coonass mud finn fink!(whatever the hell I am now!!!

I read in the C-L they had three seperate groundings on the big river this morning. One at helena, one at victoria bend, i cant recall the other. Need some rain bad. Did they let you cap'n the boat thru victoria bend? Its pretty tricky in high water, im guessing thats multiplied with it being this low. . . For those that have never seen victoria bend, it's damn near 90 degrees. . . to make it, they gotta throw the engines in full reverse to swing the barges around when they hit the bend.

No they did not. I am on as mate and the Pilot does the steering. I do steer some for the experance or to relieve him to smoke a butt or the likes but when it comes to a know tricky spot it is his responsibility to get us through it as he has the "local" knowledge and experance to get us through it. We did bump bottom a few times upbound between Cario and St. Louis. The gage at Memphrica is some where around -7.5 and expected to go to -9. In 1988 which was like one of the lowest years ever, it was -10.5! That ought to tell ya something about how bad it is and how it will get worst!

Sat. the boat stoped at Old River Control Structure so the "genrel" and his invited guest could tour the facility from 4-6 p.m. then they were back for happy hour and fine dining. The party continued on into the night as I could hear them stompping around on the next level up. Next day they said they were doing line dance lessons and such! :x I did not sleep to well! The next morning I woke at 9a.m. after getting off watch at 6a.m. so I could see the bridges and the port of Vicksburg. My wife and two daughters were staying at Diamond Jacks(old Isle of Capri) and I called to get them to come out side to see 'ol huckmudfinn waving at them.
We tied up at the Vicksburg Dist. Fleet at the very top of the port and I got to go eat with the family and GO HOME!

But GUESS WHAT friends and neighbors, I HAD TO BE BACK AT 6A.M. THIS MORNING AS I AM ON FOR TWO MORE WEEKS!   Well at least it is another 2 weeks of overtime for the wifey to spend! To satistisfy the Coast Guard requirments they had to have at least one Mate. The other guy had to go back to his dredgeboat "Jadwin" out of Vicksburg so I got Shanghied int to it! Oh well. I will get to learn how to make up a 25 or so barge tow! :? :?
