Ballistically speaking, the .260 is getting a lot of chatter these days.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
Re: Long range hog gun?
.260 is a great gun however it's hard on barrels. Something to think of long term.

Yeah. There are some 6.5 wildcats that shoot fast enough to be a barrel burner. The 260, Creedmor, 6.5x47 are sweethearts though.

Don't have a 260 so I don't know for sure but I bet it will outlast at 243 and not quite as long as a 308 with normal usage. but if I had your problem I would routinely be doing mag dumps at hogs from great distances away and would expect it to eat the barrel quicker.

Re: Long range hog gun?
The 260 and CM are so close in velocity, barrel life should be a wash. The CM does have a leg up on brass availability because Hornady actually supports it, something Remington is apparently clueless about. The CM chamber is a bit shorter throated, I've read, enabling an easier kiss of the lands at the same SA magazine length. This is significant but only a concern for hand loaders, though.

Lapua makes it for the 260. Like a wiseman said "I only shoot calibers that Lapua makes brass for "
