The Godfather of Deer Hunting

At my age, it is hard sometimes to think back twenty years and remember a lot about what was taking place. However, given that I grew up on a golf course and spent the rest of my time hunting, there are a few things that I vividly recall. Those times, the early nineties, were the days when hunting shows had just begun to take the scene in mass, and it seemed like every man I knew on the golf course had a persimmon wood tucked away somewhere. And as it turns out there was a small town golf pro in Missouri who was well on his way to making a career out of slinging arrows and swinging golf clubs during the same time.

Jay Gregory was busy with a new job as golf pro when he decided he could turn his passion for bow hunting whitetails into a career. I understand it seems like a lot for one man to tackle but hey, when the course is closed in winter you have to do something right! So, on a wild hair driven by ambition and an already enormous amount of deer knowledge, Jay launched The Wild Outdoors in 1992. Now you are probably thinking yeah I know that show, and you should because it is the longest running whitetail show on television today. However, as with anything in life, there are always moments that change you. One spring morning while scouting for turkeys Jay found himself in an unfortunate situation that took a serious turn for the worse. This new documentary series The Other Side from Latendresse Media dives into the day that changed Jay Gregory’s life forever and I can guarantee that you will not expect to hear the shocking story that The Other Side unveils.

It cannot go without mention that The Wild Outdoors also has no plans of slowing down as Jay’s kids Wyatt and Whitley have taken the scene with Jay in recent years and have reinvigorated his love for producing quality outdoor television. And in case you are wondering about his golf career, well he won the Missouri Senior Am by five shots last year, so I guess the fella still has it!
