Let's Hear It

Postby lefthorn » Tue Jan 06, 2004 8:08 am

Ok, boys, I know yall in the delta are seeing some new birds right now. I was gonna go this morning with bluwtr but we decided to wait a day and let the wind die a little. I know it is gonna get cold some maybe these last few weeks will shape up like the last week of last year. Let's hear those duck reports(just ot get me excited), whether good or bad!

I figured they'd be here too. They're not at Mahannah...Shot twice this morn-killed one teal. No ducks in the air. Gonna try the river in the morning.

Hunted north of Mahanna this AM lots of ducks working early and quite a few moving around high, but they are all ducks that have been here for awhile. No new ducks that I could see.
There are a lot of ducks between Minter city and Ruleville in a swath from just north of Indianola to almost Clarksdale.

2 days x 4 mallards/day x 8 hunters=64. Wait a minute...musta been some of them sparkling, green and white, spoon-billed mallards in the bunch ;)

Well, me and bluwtr ventured out into the cold(but welcome) air yesterday morn. Around 6:40, two mallards come right into the dekes, he picks the left and I pick the right. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam....one mallard dead on the water. Went out and picked it up and it was the biggest fattest triple curl greenhead I have ever seen. More ducks flew around but never did work in close enough. Picked up around 9 and rode around and jumped more ducks than I have seen in a while down here. Just don't think there was any boat traffic to keep them moving yesterday. Sure wish I could be out there this morning, cloudy, cold and raining!

Got em pretty good today in the south delta. Started hunting this morning around 10:00 and finished up around 2:00. Killed 5 mallards and 7 Greenwingers. I lucked up and killed a mallard with jewelry also. Saw a good number of birds. Still need another cold push.
Ya'll hammer 'em this weekend.

Sorry guys for the typo. I got a little excited and should have said 62 instead of 72. I talked with two guys from the club tonight and said they had never seen the teal like they saw today. Said it was unreal ! There was 4 guys in camp that hunted this morning and they all got there limits of teal and mallards! They also saw lots of widgeon and pintails. Hope they stay around untill monday. Good luck to everyone this weekend.
