Remington 770

Postby woody » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:32 am

I have a friend looking to get intoi deer and hog hunting. I suggested a remingting mdl 700 in .270 or 7mag. He found a good deal on a used Rem 700 .270 that comes with a decent scope case and 1 box of ammo. However I dont think he ants to spend what the store has it listed at. Saw I started looking around for him. I saw this Rem 770 new comes with everything he need except ammo for ____. But I have no clue if this a good gun. I know you get what you pay for, but this would be about half what the used Rem 700 with scope is. Also, I'm open to any suggestions as to a good deer/hog slayer for him. If you have anything used please let me know. Thanks

I've been shooting the Model 710 for 8 years (predecessor to the 770), got it at Academy with scope, and got a free 2 gun aluminum case for $300. I have killed as many deer with it as my friends with the high dollar rifles, with the high dollar scopes on them have. It's ugly, it doesn't have the smoothest action, but it shoots straight.

They do shoot fine, only problem i have seen with them is the slack in the action like stated above.

I would recomend the marlin xl7 over the 770. The 770 shoots fine but has a real rough bolt. That is a good deal on the win model 70 listed above.

I've got a 710 that I bought soon after they hit the market--- wouldn't trade it for anything. Killed the first deer I shot with it, about an hour after I left the store.
