I think the only reason people are going to see this movie (obviously because of the media press), but to satisfy their own satiable lust for violence and death. I also believe that these people lining up to see this movie would have had front rows at the live event!

I am not sure where you are getting your views from, but it had nothing to do with satisfying a lust for violence. You are way off base on this one....
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

It was bound to surface... There are those independent churches that feel the calling to be against anything that the mainstream of christian churches embrace- i.e., any other translation of Scripture that's not KJV, contemporary christian music

Some churches are still hearing sermons on the evils of Rook and women wearing pants to church. That leaves no time to see the value of this movie- Jesus, the Lamb of God, being lifted up in front of the lost world.

Maybe a little off the subject, but I think this movie is unique because Gibson obviously pours all his heart and soul into the film. He used his own 'passion' to film it, and wasn't worried or concerned what others (especially in Hollywood) think, which is rare this day and age.

This movie also makes you think. Not just for Christians, but for anyone who sees it. Going to a movie and actually having to think about it. Another rarity these days.

On a lighter note, did anyone eat any popcorn while watching this movie? Munching down on popcorn just doesn't seem appropriate while watching a crucifixation.

I completely understand where you’re coming from. I just seem to find humor in the fact that this seems to “be the thing to do.” I am not knocking anyone … I am laughing… Call me Superman cause I can see right through you.

Oh and now you want to label me “liberal” because I scoff at what a commercial fiasco this thing has become… Maybe this is what we need in these times… Is this a reality check or is this Mo Money Fo Da Cherch!! Maybe I am just a purist…

While I am a true believer and I know where I’ll be “come that day,” to tell you the truth…. I don’t believe in organized religion. And that “My Friend” is the beauty of America: the freedom of religion…. Isn’t it great that I can send my kid to a public school (or any other public place for that matter) without the fear of someone else forcing their religious views or opinions upon them? I can guess you wouldn’t want me to be a schoolteacher if religion could be a part of the daily teachings eh!

messing with God's business

Postby sig » Fri Mar 05, 2004 1:31 pm

The way I see it, Mel Gibson made this movie despite alot of criticism because of his own inner convictions with Jesus Christ. Based on his Faith, Hope, and Love.

When you criticize other believers' efforts to spread God's message which is based on their sincere beliefs and love for the gospel, you are messing with God's business, and you should be careful.

As far as I am concerned, there is plenty of room on the band wagon...the more the merry'er

Oh, I'm sorry i misunderstood you Homer. You are on the OTHER end of the spectrum- "religion is such a personal thing, I don't think we should talk about it".

Just for my benefit what is "organized religion"?

I'm not sure I understand how these two can go hand in hand??? Oh yes, have you actually seen the movie yet? Just curious where your opinion of the movie came from.

Thanks.

I will support and urge all Christians to support any pro-Christian movie from the left coast. This is one that goes strictly by the Bible and is graphic to show you what Christ went thru because of his love of us. Watching the planes hitting the twin towers is also graphic and true. If we are not reminded of these events we see to forget the pain.

Homer you sound a little holier than thou in my opinion. I think any way the word of Christ is used to reach people, and bring people closer to the word is good. Im not going to judgge everybodies soul and say why or why not people are going to see this movie, but if it reaches some thats great. I think some people are being too judgemental about peoples decisions about whether or not they go to this movie. One who does not go is not a better person because they dont go. Ihear a lot of people kind of beating their chest and exclaiming "i m not going" seeming to think that makes them a better Christain, i disagree.

So what do you believe in? Disorganized religion? Can you back up your "lone ranger" approach to spirituality with any scripture? I would encourage you to look a little deeper into God's word. The fact is that the Bible references many times the coming together of believers. Not only does it talk about it, it commands it!

Jesus only spent 40 days alone in the wilderness. How can you expect yourself to be able to make this your spiritual way of life?

I'm not going to water this down and say that "It's just my opinion" because it's far more than that. It's concrete, biblical truth!

Apart from this, all I can say is you're missing out on some awsome blessings! Don't be a stranger! Come visit with your true family: the Body of Christ!

P.S. I haven't seen the movie either!

You say tomato I say tomato......

Squealer.... that was very Eloquently stated... you have impressed me

Have you ever watched the Simpson’s? Remember the episode where Homer’s wife was trying to get him to go to church. She brings in the preacher and he begins referencing numerous scriptures (chapter, verse number and then the quote), which were all very relevant to Homer’s predicament. Well Homer then Homer decides he wants to sound intelligent, so he then blurts out a chapter and verse number. Of course the preacher recognizes this chapter and verse number and proceeds to recite the verse, which has absolutely nothing to do with their conversation. Homer’s response:

Think about it!!

Here is a quote for all of you John 3:16…..

Great discussion ya'll.....!!!

Check Please!!!!

Way to go Gulfcoast, the Catholics and the Protestants all watching it together. We are all believers in Christ. Some think that because I am Catholic that I am not a Christian! I consider myself one and I'll bet Mel Gibson considers himself to be one too!
