Corn after the season

Postby The White Perch » Tue Jan 27, 2004 5:45 pm

I would like to pose a question to some of the experts on this site. Now that the season is over would it do any good to scatter out shelled corn and or chops in the shallow areas of a duck hole to maybe imprint on ducks to come back to the hole next season? If so what would the corn cost per bag and would you recommend any other food other than corn?

Next year the hole will be planted in natural corn. Thanks for any input.

If you believe in imprinting then you surely know it's going to work.
But more important than that is just feeding the ducks.
It's getting late, you better hurry, dont buy bags go buy some at the grain bins it's a lot cheaper. I saw where judge jb has been doing this, I have wanted to do this for a long long time, you should try it see what happens.

Judge just posted a thread on exactly what your talkin about, in theory this would work. Probably should be somewhat of a ducky hole in the first place. Dont burn ep too early in the season..... good luck 8)

I know several people that do this for the same reason that you are talking about "imprinting". I think that as long as you are not spending a ton of money on your corn it will not hurt to try it.

Heck do it before the season, that way you get some incredible hunting (for that year) and imprint that into the ducks to that so we'll all have better hunting the following years....hehehe.

Just hire a plane to fly it on, it's cheaper than you think.

I know a guy that bought a average field for duck hunting. The first three years he owned it he didn't hunt it, instead baited it solid gold. After the three years of the corn party were up, he quit baiting and started hunting.

From what he told me, (he is kind of a fibber) it worked, but I can't imagine the money he put out there in corn.

I know of several very large clubs who pour corn like mad after the season. What can it hurt?
So many ducks, so little time....
