Duck Tags
Duck Tags
I want to make sure you all are legal this hunting season. We have had a lot of discussion on MSDucks about tagging migratory game birds. I have printed these tags to give to hunters free to make sure you are legal. To receive free Migratory Game Bird Tags send a self addressed stamped envelope addressed to MDWFP, ATTN.: Migratory Game Bird Tags, 1505 Eastover Dr., Jackson, MS 39211-6374. I will them in the mail to you ASAP, before the ducks get here anyway.

duck tags???
When did they start doing that?? If it is something I gotta have I'll get it out today.
If your not a Gator... You're Gatorbait
SB,... I have a question for you !
If my wife goes to the blind with me one morning, she has no gun !
Is she required to have State and Federal Stamps, as well as a hunting License ?
La. does not require a person "not actually pulling a trigger", to have stamps or License !
What about Ms. ?
Thanks in advance !
Rip Em !

This is the first I have heard of this. I try to always hunt and fish by the law but they are making it hard these days. Think if the state wants the ducks tagged then it is the STATE'S responsiblity to get the tags out before the season. If this is a federal deal then there needs to be better co-op w/ between the state and the fed's. They sould be given to you when you buy stamps and license! It should not be up the consevation officers to be handing out tags in the middle of the season! What kind of people are running the show down there in Jackson.

Tagging and Recordkeeping Requirements. (1) No person shall put or leave any migratory game birds at any place, other than at his personal abode, or in the custody of another person for picking, cleaning, processing, shipping, transportation, or storage, including temporary storage, or for the purpose of having taxidermy services performed, unless such birds have a tag attached, signed by the hunter, stating his address, the total number and species of birds, and the date such birds were killed. Migratory game birds being transported in any vehicle as the personal baggage of the possessor shall not be considered as being in storage or temporary storage.
(2) No person shall receive or have in custody any migratory game birds belonging to another person unless such birds are tagged as required under subsection (1) of this section.
(3) No person shall transport migratory game birds belonging to another person unless such birds are tagged as required under subsection (1) of this section

Remember, When you're feelin' bad for spending so much money on hunting, this ain't no dress rehearsal.
i agree with you there skuna thats pruty crappy to do that now...wut this state agency thinking? nuting aganist you there SB you do a great job thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!! i got my envelope in the mail as we speak.... thanks again! one question....... why dont i kill a band everytime i hunt? just joking!!!!!!!!!!! maybe one day i will get there
i don't have my double secret decoder ring w/ me right now, but from what i can tell (and that's NOT saying i think i'm right), we are cool carrying, transporting, etc our own ducks, just not someone else's...is this correct...granted, i didn't read too closely on SLH's post as i just get turned around when dealing w/ legalities anyway...i'm thinking one reason this is done is to mark ducks on one strap when there's two hunters and gotta figure out who killed what...i'm sure i'm wrong or ya'll wouldn't be so fired up, so jes politely set me straight...gator

Tagging is required if the birds are being transported by another person for the hunter, or if the birds have been left for cleaning, storage (including temporary storage), shipment or taxidermy services. No person shall give, put or leave any migratory game birds at any place or in the custody of another person unless the birds are tagged by the hunter with the following information:
hunter's signature
hunter's address
total number of birds involved, by species
and dates such birds were killed.
The above are federal requirements, which make 'em state law as well.
Some states (like Ark.) require the hunter's license number to also be on the tag.
Can be an issue if you are hunting more than one day before returning home, or if you leave your ducks laying in your boat and go eat lunch (or pack your bags out of the motel.
The law has been on the books for years but has only been enforced in the past few years much. Feds are big on writing tickets for this these days.

Try harder, or take-up golf.......'Ain't so hard......plenty folks are 'informed'. The information is available and accessible.I try to always hunt and fish by the law but they are making it hard these days.
I think Scott's doing this on his own.......as a service to the duck hunters he's sworn to serve. I admire him for going above and beyond the specified 'job discription'. 'Too bad there's people that don't realize this and appreciate the fact that there are MANY indivduals in the dept. that take an interest in making things easier for folks that can't remember to zip their pants up. It's the hunter's responsibility to know the law.....'not the game warden's job to go around with you and hold your hand and tell you you're fixin' to screw-up.Think if the state wants the ducks tagged then it is the STATE'S responsiblity to get the tags out before the season.
Don't blame your lack of initiative on the government. If this is a federal deal then there needs to be better co-op w/ between the state and the fed's.
The dept. doesn't provide these tags......this is just something Scott's doing, himself. Fine thanks he gets for his effort, huh? They sould be given to you when you buy stamps and license! It should not be up the consevation officers to be handing out tags in the middle of the season!

Well.......don't call'em if you're looking for a babysitter. I'm sure they find themselves in that role from time to time, but that's not really their forte. What kind of people are running the show down there in Jackson.
Nice idea, SB.

'You always talk outa boaf sides o' yo mouff? Bash SB and the Dept. outa one side, then 'suck-up outa the other? Take a stand for something, buddy.dukbum wrote:I agree with you there skuna thats pruty crappy to do that now...wut this state agency thinking? nuting aganist you there SB you do a great job thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!!
