GulfCoast, Funny you say that (about zone coverage). I wish Cooper would try man-to man coverage.

That's the only bad thing about a 4-3 defense, can't go bump and run coverage, man to man. Tulane was going 4 and 5 wide, and state was trying to cover them with 2 corners and 2 safeties. There is no way that 2 safeties can go up against WR's in man to man coverage. Before the season is over, they will go to a nickel package with 5 db's. They switched to a 4-3 to get more pressure on the QB, don't remember seeing a sack yet, and they are hardly blitzing.

Have heard rumors of moving T. Kelly to Def. end !

Maybe these moves would allow for more pressure on the QB !

So far in the two games we have played, the dogs have faced 3 high quality QB's. Losman, at Tulane, is the best QB they will face all year. I don't care how good your defensive coordinator is, if you start a true freshman at corner, a red-shirt freshman at the other corner, a true sophmore at safety, a coverage line backer who is a sophmore that hasn't been in a game in two years, you are just waiting to get picked apart. If we had more talented and experienced players to put in the secondary, we would, but we don't. I am very concerned about the defense Cooper plays, and confused at some of his calls. Offense isn't doing bad at all, they just wait until the second quarter to play.

Everyone needs to think about what JWS has done for the MSU football program. He got bit by a recruiting class that never developed and it has cost us two seasons.

We were very competitive with Oregon, who did not pull their 1st string(GC), but we had dug a hole to deep to get out of on the scoreboard. We should have beaten Tulane, but couldn't close the deal. Screw the botched call on the Jenkins fumble, one bad call didn't lose that game. Tack both of those games up to experience for the younger guys, and Ron Cooper for knowing what those kids can and can't do.

We will be competitive in a lot of games this year, but with the defense being so young, don't expect a lot.

ole miss guys, if not this year, when? You got your QB you coveted so much, but he is gone after this year. Everyone knows Cut was hired to get Eli. If Cut had been fired, Eli would have been in the NFL this year.

Jackson State and Southern will be carrying the torch this year, looks like. I hope that kid from USM is ok with the head injury.

All this whining is excuses. Pure and simple. Y'all wanna come up with any reason in the world why you have been getting chumped week in and week out. Suck it up and admit it, you will feel better.

I have already said since before the season started that Ole Miss would stink this year, they have no defense and can't run the ball. They stink. When Georgia beats us by 40 points, I will be the first one to say "We deserved that whipping." If Cutcliffe can't recruit a defense in 4 years, he has exposed Fulmer as the genius, and himself as the contender. Manning will be a first round NFL draft pick and a multi-millionaire in a year whether you like it or not. He can't win games by himself, though.

You see, the difference between me and the "hate Eli early" state boys is 90% of y'all don't have the intellectual integrity to admit your "ain't won a game in almost a year" team sux, too. I can admit it for mine, why can't you?

Step up to the keyboard and show me you got some 'cred.

GO24: This ain't aimed at you, your a good guy, and I know that. I will be glad to continue this discussion with anyone who wants to talk football (like Rip Em), and not just demonstrate thier self avowed hatred of folks just based on what school they attended (if they even went.) I love how some of you guys like to talk about "Ole Piss" and then send me PM's asking me to pray for you about something. I got one of those the other night, and it has kinda tripped me out!

GC, you laid it down! I can say it as bad as I hate to-- MSU football is sucking big time these days. But I'm not a fairweather fan. I'm maroon and white even when we suck, that means I put on a positive spin...

I'm maroon and white through and through. And, I've been that way since 1969. I was a Dawg when the first Manning put a whupping on Tennessee and that linebacke Kiner. I lived through the cowbell wars with Auburn...I can tolerate them a little bit more now that Shug Jordan is dead. I was at State when Bob Tyler came to town. I've never missed an issue of the Alumni magizine...here of late, it's been kinda scary to see too many folks from my class listed in the "deceased" section. I also have been a member of the athletic booster club every year since I graduated. Along with 25 other graduates, I fund a scholarship in the English department in memory of a professor. And, yes, I don't like Jackie Sherrill! I have known him too long. He has recruited players in three systems where I have worked. I have listened to too many boys tell the same stories. I have heard too may of Coach Sherrill's pitches...knowing what he was saying was not true or was just a pipe dream. Here's the pinnacle of my rant...As much as I love State, if I was fortunate enough to have a child talented enough to play D1 football, I would not allow him to play for this coach. the program is not a positive one...and you can't count that in wins and loses.

Miss. State is going to pull another "Tulane game"..... be somewhat in control...... then here comes Houston !...... The difference this weekend however, is,.... We're gonna finally get that big sack (fumble, we recover)....or......Culby or Bradley is finally gonna get that big interception we needed so badly (last week).

REMEMBER,... YA HEARD IT HERE FIRST !!!!
