Bigwater, the earliest I remember seeing Blue wings in Mississippi was about the second or third weekend in August. The biggest concentration of Blue wings I have seen in Mississippi was the second weekend in September three years ago. When there is low water conditions in the delta, they seem to be more concentrated in certain places.
I thought ALL waterfowl were to shot off the water.
Wait a second....... Are you telling me...... You folks try to shoot ducks before they land on the water !!!
No! No ! No !
Yall have got to attend the R.E.S.D.H. (The Rip Em School of Duck Huntin)
I offer this along with the R.E.S.W.T. (The Rip Em School Of Wife Training)

OFFSEASON ?,..... Ain't no such thing !
I don't know if they stay long but they come through earlier than that. The last two years, I have had my first BWteal sighting at the mouth of the mississippi ( a true teal heaven) the last week of July. Yes I am sure they are BWteal, the only question is are they some that stay year round. I have asked many times and have been out a lot during the summer and have never seen them until last week of July. Don't always see them that early, but last two years I have. Now again, where I am seeing them is their destination until they load up for S. America, but if they show up in Venice, they have to at least stop occasionally in Mississippi. As far as teal season any kind of decoy in just about any kind of spread will work for early season teal. Also lern how to use a BWteal call, in the hands of someone that knows how to use one, it will call teal in and it can turn them just like a hail call from a mallard call to mallards. Hope that helps, but I can't wait for my teal kabob and crab boil on September 13, should be when teal season opens, and quite possibly my favorite day of the year.
Back in the day....1969-70....a buddy that went to Madison/Ridgeland H. S. used to take me to the Rez and shoot greenwings by the bunch. In the early 70's, the teal limit was 10, believe it, or not. He had one place that was a long weir of riprap that stuck way out into a flat. You could stand in the grass that grew up along the end of those rocks and the teal would knock your hat off every morning. They would be in flights of 20-30 and would decoy to the 6 mallard decoys (all I had at the time) with no hesitation. I don't ever recall hearing another shot all the times we went hunting there. But, we would start scouting around the third week in August and there were always some teal in by then. the numbers came the first two weeks in Sept., though. Any of you ever know Randy Pope. He played ball with me at Holmes and last I heard of him (10 yrs. ago) he was in Meridian and in the timber business.

Ripem it was good to see you and Bosshawg last week. I feel sure the reason yall could not spend the night instead of leaving at 10pm to drive 5 hours back home was because you did not want your wife to miss a training lesson. How long does school last? 20 plus years
You told me you never shot a sitting duck, you always waited til he started swiming!

Crow, I know Randy Pope. You're right, he is in the timber business. I believe his outfit is called Dixieland Forest Products. He used to have an office in Ackerman, which is where I met him, but it has since closed down. I don't know him very well, only met a couple of times, but last I heard he was still in business in Meridian...........
