Call the MDWF & P Museum of Natural Science.

They handle a lot of the non-game animals. I used to work there about 13-14 years ago. They're some really smart, helpful biologists down there. They could probably help you out or if someonte gets a cast of a track they could help with the id.

I saw something about 4 yrs ago during turkey season by ny home in norther scott county. We were walking along the edge of a slew when we saw something black with a long curled tail runing through the woods. This was about the 6th time this has been seen in our area. My uncle has a plaster cast where one crossed the road. Who's not to say the are around here. A bear was was seen five years ago by the game warden and no one else in the county with people out looking for it. Does anyone know what part of the county it was taken it or who to it?
If it's a hen we know who killed it.

there are panthers {mountain lions} right here in Ms. i know of two here in Tippah Co.. i seen both of them, before they were released by the owner who was unable to afford the 5 million dollar liability insurance that the state made mandatory in the early 90's... not being able to turn them over to authorities and wanting them to be free, the gate was left open... having been de-clawed and de-fanged i imagine the only way they could survive would be around garbage cans....but who knows?

Releasing a de-clawed and de-fanged panther is like cutting that man's arms off and telling him "Okay, go, find a job and make a living."

Duckhnter, my father saw that bear on Kings Pt. Island, not far from Chotard Lake, back in the late 80's. He took a picture of the tracks w/ a measuring stick next to them where it crossed the road .

Pops says it was a young bear. Tracks about 3-4 inches wide. He has some friends that hunt @ Steel Bayou. I'll get him to ask them a/b it.

I've looked at this thing with a magnifying glass and I've decided that it's a bobcat or (don't laugh) a coyote (can't see the front of its muzzle. The more I look at it with a glass, the more it looks like a 'yote. Either that, or a cross-lateral leaf hopping wampus cat!

Hey Bullreds& Greenheads, I wouldnt wanna see one killed, for any reason (except for just causes ),but answer me this...... How can it be illeagle to kill,.... what dont even exist......??? (according to MWF&P)

Stay with me.... not being a smarta$$....but, IF THERE IS A LAW PROTECTING THIS ANIMAL IN MS....wouldnt it be admitting, that we actually have them!!! :)

You know... MWF&P aint outlawed the killing of Bull African Elephants in Ms.....For a reason.

See my point ??? They know we got panthers! I've always thought so!

In fact, I hope we do. Cant say, I KNOW we do!

Maybe one day!
OFFSEASON ?,..... Ain't no such thing !

Good point, RIP EM! Doesn't make much sense does it? I used to question them until that one day when I was deer hunting. I know it wasn't any dog! Then, those other people that I know have the plaster mold of the footprints. They'z wiley rascals though.........

Crow, a coyote?!

Go get your prescription filled for some new lenses, pops! :D

Could be a bobcat, but I definitely think it's a cat of some sort.
