Can you use a small mud motor (Go Devil, Mudbuddy, etc.) on a River Hawk or Gheenoe? Also, for you guys that have used these boats in cypress breaks and other areas with stumps, snags, etc., how do they hold up to punishment? Can you break ice with them, or are the hulls too thin/fragile?

Partner has ganooe that we use in a 300 acre cypress break.....re-fiberglassed about 3-4 holes this year....also...rubbed a hole around the drain plug....ok...now....
The transom is not going to be strong enough...and the bottom wont take the abuse that a mud/stump boat would require......I would not want to be in one out in the middle of a large body of water....
works great in 10-18 inches...electric motor or push pole...
good luck....
just my opinion...

I have a Riverhawk now, and hunted out of a friends Gheenoe for years.
We have never had any problems with leaks or holes.
With ice, they will bust thin ice, but are too light for thick ice. This weekend, we ran the Riverhawk full of hunters on top of the ice and it would not bust.

I had a River Hawk for 3 years. I really used it (hunted 40 days out of it one year). Most hunts were in cypress breaks. I normally had a 15hp outboard on it, but when the water was low I used a small (5hp) go devil. I think I patch the bottom 3 times and replaced the transome once. I now own an aluminum boat. Me personally, I won't own another fiberglass boat. But, you can put a small go devil on it.

Hyena...go back and look at my post....about a month ago I gave someone instructions on repairing fibergalss....it is easy...
You have broken the "gel coat"...and water will get into you fiberglass mat inside and make your boat gain weight.....
It is real easy to repair ...sand ....and paint....be glad to show you...live in ridgeland....kit cost 10-12 dollars at auto store,,,....
Will take 15-30 minutes to repair....
