Hogs are UM's biatch.....

in basketball

As bad as the Rebs are this season (for the 4th season in a row), we somehow managed to beat a more talented Arkansas team tonight in the Sad Pad ---I was there ---along with about 2500 other dazed and confused Rebel fans scattered throughout the Sad Pad ---just waiting for the Rebs to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory ---and, as if destined for misery, the Rebels 9 point lead with approx 2 minutes left diminished like a fart in the wind to just a one point lead with 9 seconds left ---but, tonight, Arkansas sucked worse, and the Rebs pulled one out of their proverbial booty, perhaps setting the stage for a stay of execution for Barnes if the Rebs can scratch out a couple of more wins.
Barnes is now 10-4 against the Hogs.

I am not sure what that says about the Hogs (I don't want to appear to be too critical), but it does not say a lot. As Stans is to Barnes, Barnes is to Heath/Richardson.
This was my first game to attend this season. And from the looks of the Sad Pad, and the pitiful crowd, lackluster environment, horrible entertainment during halftime, etc., I would have to say, "the thrill is gone". Our basketball program has officially hit rock bottom ---or at least Ed Murphy era status. YUCK.
Congrats

"There was one?" Webb, maybe "thrill" was an overstatement. Perhaps pulse would be more accurate. We have now flat-lined, but for a brief moment last night, rose from the dead.

I'd say "few" is right. But, you guys did not look too "proud".
Yelp, that was as few UM students at a mid-week SEC home game that I think I have ever witnessed. All kidding and sarcasm aside, the low turnout for this game was shocking.

I think a change could and should be very near absent a miracle finish. Saw Pete Boone at the game, sitting in the cheap seats near my seat. Not many fans sitting next to him or behind him, or around him. He looked kind of bored. Surely, he can see for himself the empty shell that is left of our basketball program. But, it will likely be Robert's call. Barnes was not hired by Boone, and was already the head coach when Boone returned for his second stint as AD. IF it was up to Boone, it is likely that Rod would have been fired a season or two ago. Sadly, RK may be hesitant to pull the trigger on Rod this year unless a really good candidate for the job, who is a sure thing(will come to Ole Miss), and the right fit (PC, right color, type person, etc.), steps to the forefront. I just do not see RK firing Rod at the end of this season without the right successor already locked up and ready to hire.
Regardless of what happens with Rod this season, it is clear that the majority of fans, even the season ticket holders, have given up on Barnes. They are still buying tickets, but just not attending the games. If he remains, Barnes will have a huge task ahead in winning back the fans. A fast, dramatic turnaround, with some exciting play on the court, will be necessary to accomplish such a thing. I now have serious doubts that Rod can deliver. IF Barnes remains, I see the strong possibility of fans in the stands with bags over their heads in protest next season.

Yep, it was pathetic. For a team to play so underneath themselves, its frustrating.
Its compounded by the fact that they finally put together the effort we know that was in them on Saturday against Florida, They never let down nd played hard for the whole game and was finally rewarded with the outcome that was a happy one not a sad one. The game this week against Bama will tell if they have turned the corner. They say that one has to hit rock bottom before they help themselves, losing to the Rebs about as rock bottom as one can get in SEC.

Po, would you rather have a winning record against the Hogs in Football or Basketball. Don't answer, I know the answer.
