I have an Austin and Halleck that is percussion cap, is that old enough? The percussion caps were big before the 209 primers came out.

Still use a Hawkins .50cal. Shoots 120gr FF black powder or RS pyrodex, .429cal. 200gr hornady jacketed hollow point on a sabot. Have a Green Mountian barrel (made for sabots) with a propoint on it. Real tack driver! I good with it out to about 200 yds.

I still ONLY use smokepoles. I have two .50 cal roundball flintlocks that I use almost exclusivley for deer hunting. I have an old percussion cap Thomspon but to be honest I prefer the flintlocks.

I do have an Encore I will use some in the right cornfield in Illinois, but I would say 98% of the time I am using a flintlock if I am carrying a gun deer hunting. They are a lot of fun to shoot and it's a shame things have gotten so high tech. It's so easy to use the newer black powder guns there really is no incentive to shoot a flintlock now. I wonder how many hunter even know how to shoot through iron sights now?

All you "very" primitive hunters think your special since you don't use scopes or cartridges. It doesn't make any of you better than the next guy because it is a choice. I choose to look through a scope and use a rifle because it is simply easier to kill a deer. Just because I use a scope on a rifle doesn't mean I will kill one though. Last year I didn't kill a dang thing but time. It's not all about the gun you use. I am sure the injurns back in the day were saying the same junk "Hey Redhawk, I bet white man don't even use knife and jump out of trees, I bet white man use gun every time, I bet white man don't use bow and arrow." Then the injurns started using guns!!!!!!

nope not at all do I think I am special because I use a smokepole.

However I will disagree with you. I think using more traditional stuff is dying out, everyone prefers to use scopes and rests and such when shooting/hunting. Sure it is great for hunting becuase with little practice someone can consistently make good shots on game and not wound them. However it is much like cajun french it's something that not many use any more. Does this necessarily hurt the population absolutley not. However it is about heritage, and as we go further there is less and less that is used by todays generations.
