spent a year in iraq and they have what we referred to as happy fire where they celebrate being happy about something, (weddings, birthdays, good news, or a particularly good meal), by shooting up into the air. I was at Mahannah opening morning and it truly did sound like downtown baghdad on a holiday or after a big event like Saddam Hussein's capture.

carlyle lake in Illinois was just rated the number 4 public duckin spot in the country and they have a ban on motorized vehicles. up there there is no draw but they ring a bell at 4 30 and everyone races out to the hole alot of people use mountain bikes. its acctually pretty neat to watch. you also have to have 12 decoys to hold your hole so just imagine a bunch of grown men riding mtn bikes in waders with bags of decoys on their backs.

I know you guys don't like to hear the draw word, BUT Mahanna needs draw hunts on the weekends!! I'm not saying draw ONLY. Just weekends, anyone can hunt during the week but draw on the weekends. That place is TOOOO dangerous NOT to have something like that!

The only other possibility is a fist come basis with the game wardens counting hunters as they enter and stopping hunters once it reaches a certain number!

THey HAVE TO DO SOMETHING for safety sake!!!

thats the closest bigwater has ever been to being in a firefight.

dangerous.. hell the fire marshall needs to show up and take control of that situation.. we won't let another hunter out there until one leaves.

ttt...

lawdy help... the ol days of the mahanna 500... when men were men and sleeping ducks slept with one eye open... bigdawg correct me if i'm wrong but that video was taken on a fri morning which was the opener.. the next day (sat).. i was out there in all that craziness hunting with you... it was almost a repeat.. i still remember you telling me to watch what was going to happen.. i kept thinking to myself that theres no way these guys will shoot that early on a state owned property knowing full and damn well that the man is up their and watching...

sure enuff about 25-30 min before legal.. the first shots were fired... and from then on it was full on pure bedlem... after the first shot was fired.. this big ball of ducks came over our heads .. you could just barley make out the silos of the ducks as they passed over and then turned back north.... as that big ball of ducks went over the corn the folks unloading into that wad of ducks was mindblowing...

i think our group..we kilt 15 or 16 ducks that morning mostly teal.. they would jump up out of the corn and you could see one coming from a ways away... shrapnel would be exploding all around it.. and every now and then one would make it through the gaunlet to us.. and we'd finish it off....

glad i got experience that... kinda ,,, maybe,. sort of.... not really...

I was hunting an adjacent property to Mahannah that glorious morn when I heard the battle ensue. It actually helped us out since by the time shooting light came, the sky was filled with scared ducks looking for a place to land. Some landed harder than others.

i was there that morning. it was the first time ive ever been to mahannah. i wasnt even in my spot yet when they started shooting. when we left that morning there were about 7 fed trucks with binocs looking at this one group from the road. i dont know if they got them for anything.
