And to think many of you MSU fans wanted Polk gone during the last 2-3 seasons. Said he had lost his magic.

While it is too early to proclaim that those of you who thought that way were wrong, it is starting to look that way.
Interesting how the RPI rankings do not mirror the polls for some of the SEC teams:
Per 3/20/06
Ole Miss is ranked #94 out of 293 teams. MSU #4.
Breakdown of entire SEC:
Tide 3
MSU 4
Ark 7
Fla 8
UGA 20
LSU 28
SC 35
AU 41
UK 55
UM 94
VU 107
UT 120
It is still very early in the season, and I am certain these numbers are going to change dramatically after several SEC series. However, these stats do serve as a good barometer for how well a team is doing early, compared to the rest of the country, and factors in strength of competition in addition to wins. The numbers show that MSU deserves a top ranking this early, and that UM has a long way to go to get back into the hunt for a regional bid. UM needs to go at least .500 in SEC play and move into the top 40 RPI to make sure it gets a bid.
UT apparently played a pattycake non-conference schedule. Dead last in RPI in the SEC, but still nationally ranked in the polls.

Once again it verifies that the SEC is one of the toughest if not toughest conferences in the nation. Holds true for football, baseball, and usually basketball. If you can consistently win in the SEC in anything you deserve to make a million a year as a coach.
I hope the momentum holds for the Dogs. It might could be a magical season for them.

I gotta go with ya on this one pondman. This early in the season, the only direction we can go is down. (It's easier to get to the top than it is to stay at the top. But if anybody can 'stay at the top', it's us, BY GOD!)

Back to the top. Who knew?
