According to Baseball America's poll released a few minutes ago.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/co ... top25.html

First #1 ranking since the early 90's.

DURHAM, N.C.--Mississippi State ascended to No. 1 in Baseball America's weekly college baseball rankings for the first time since March 1993 thanks to a 15-0 start. It marks the best start in school history for the Bulldogs, who won four times on the week and have tied the MSU record for consecutive wins.

Former No. 1 Georgia Tech slipped to No. 5 after dropping a series at North Carolina State, which re-entered the rankings at No. 20. No. 2 Clemson fell to 10th after getting swept at Virginia, which makes its season debut in the Top 25 at No. 24.

Cal State Fullerton has won eight straight games after sweeping Arizona, and the Titans rose to No. 4 in the rankings. Nebraska has won 11 consecutive games and moved into the Top 10 for the first time this season at No. 8. Florida moved up to ninth after winning a series against Arkansas.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of March 19 and do not include ties.

I'm as happy as the next State fan -- BUT what does that really mean right now. Not much!! I'll get much more excited when that ranking is there at the end of the regular season.

Obviously nobody could predict the best start in school history, but was success similar to this even in the back of anyboy's mind at the beginning of the year? It is really impressive. They could easily take three from my Tigers this weekend. Baseball is not what it used to be in BR. Congrats to the Bulldogs!

GO DOGS!!! Ron Polk's teams are usually the best when they get hot at the end of the season. Hope we do not use up all of our good luck at the start of the season. Dunn and Johnson pitched it well this weekend. Hope Cleveland just wasn't on his A game. An error does not need to be in the mind of your closer and it seemed as if it might. When Dunn came back out and struck out two, I was like "Oh yeah, he is feeling it now". U of T must have had respect for our catcher or they do not have the speed running the bases that they are usually known for. What about the guy coming in with the high BA and long hitting streak. I am not sure, but I believe it went 0 for ? on the weekend.

That was the worst I have ever seen clevland pitch he usually does good but hey everybody has a off day. Right now the polls dont mean squat they are just for braging rights, but in the SEC everyone is good NO MATTER WHAT THIER RECORD IS. and now that the Tigers are off to a bad start its just gonna be that much harder to beat them at the Box.

while i'm proud of the ranking (it dont mean chit)..

i'm still not sold on this team.. not trying to sound like a pessissmismmst.. which i am.. but i still have questions..

on the plus side.. defensivly.. we play very well in the field..

shortstop second base and the outfield all appear strong.. as well as catcher.. the pitching has been good as well..

at the plate is where i'm concernced.. long ball doesn't seem to be our strentgh.. strike out too much..

i think we will come around at the plate..

keepin my fangers crossed

Good deal, glad to see Josh Johnson's pitching well, looks like he finally got things straight. He's a good kid and his parents are family friends, good to see State doin' well.

Well I am like bigwater, I have seen us at our best and our worst, I have not missed a home game in 3-4 years until this year and I missed 1, and I go to several road games and always go to the tourn. weather it be the SEC or the Regonals. We have never been able to hit the long ball good and don't really need to, I would take basehits and doubles any day of the week but we are leaving wayyyyyyyy to many men on base and in the SEC that will come around and bite you

Diamond Dogs Climb to Top Spot In Baseball America Poll

03/20/2006

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- There's a new but familiar face atop the latest collegiate baseball rankings compiled by North Carolina-based magazine Baseball America. Mississippi State, off to school-best 15-0 start, jumped five spots to claim its first No. 1 national ranking since 1993.

The Bulldogs successfully opened league competition over the weekend, turning back the fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers 8-2 and 4-3 in a rain-shortened series at Dudy Noble Field. Saturday's victory established the school record for season-opening wins and tied the MSU mark for consecutive wins. The Bulldogs entertain UAB Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) and Jacksonville State Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) in non-conference action before resuming league play with a three-game series this weekend at Louisiana State.

It's the fourth Ron Polk-coached Mississippi State team to earn a No. 1 ranking. MSU previous top-ranked teams include the celebrated 1985 team that finished third in the NCAA College World Series, the 1989 SEC championship team that won a school-record 54 games, and the 1993 edition that opened the year with a 16-1 start.

"We're honored to be ranked No. 1 by Baseball America," said Ron Polk, in his 27th season as MSU head coach and his 33rd as a collegiate head coach. "It's a great tribute to our kids and to the staff. We know there are many, many challenges ahead of us. Hopefully we can continue to play well."

MSU opens the week as the last remaining unbeaten NCAA Division I college baseball team.

Mississippi State also climbed in two other national rankings. MSU made its season debut in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's top 10, climbing from from 12th to the No. 3 position and rose to No. 5 in the RosenblattReport.com ranking.

SEC teams joining Mississippi State in the Baseball America ranking include No. 7 South Carolina (17-3), No. 9 Florida (17-7), No. 11 Arkansas (17-3), No. 12 Tennessee (14-5), No. 15 Louisiana State (17-5), and No. 25 Georgia (14-5).

Florida State (21-2) and Nebraska (15-2) are ranked ahead of the Bulldogs in Collegiate Baseball's poll.

Freshman right-hander Matt Lea (2-0, 3.27) will open on the mound Tuesday night for the top-ranked Bulldogs, while UAB (13-7) is set to start sophomore righty Brandon Flaherty (0-2, 6.75).

I'm headed back to louisiana tomorrow for work, didn't go back today because of all the rain and storms. I don't think I'll make the LSU series, have to come back home this coming weekend to get some stuff for a wedding.
