Be careful who you are hangin' with....

www.clarionledger.com/news/0403/10/m05.html

Court date set for judge, 5 others on hunting counts

GREENVILLE — Circuit Judge Clarence Morgan III and five other men will appear before a federal magistrate March 19 here on charges of hunting doves over a baited field in Grenada County, records show.

...charges stem from a dove hunt conducted ...the opening day of the season... in Grenada County.

Bill Ashmore ...said Monday that the 10-acre site was near a junk yard and was owned by a relative... This was the first time he had held a dove hunt and was the first time he had ever hunted...

Those charged are:
-Judge Morgan, of Kosciusko, taking dove from a baited area.

-Ashmore, taking a game bird from a baited area, taking birds with a shotgun holding more than three shells, and taking birds with the aid of bait.

-Grenada County Justice Court Judge Jimmy Tallant, taking birds on a baited area, killing migratory birds (doves), taking doves over a baited area and taking migratory birds without a license.

-Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Trooper Cedric C. Adams of Greenwood, taking or attempting to take doves by the aid of baiting and leaving game birds untagged.

-Carroll County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Spellman, taking dove by aid of baiting.

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of fellas. If it is true, hope they get all that is coming to them especially the fella without the license. No excuse for that or the one without the plug. Funny thing was that the State Trooper was sited for attempting to harvest birds, must not have been a very good shot.

I wonder if they would have shot over the limit? If you do not have a plug in your gun you would or intend on shooting over the limit.

If they shot the limits and were leaving when they got checked, what kind of bait was used?

Why would you go hunting without a license.

Glad to see the warden not be not back down from powerful men!

Saw an update on this story in this past Sunday's Commercial Appeal out of Memphis.

Appears all six men pleaded guilty to misdemeanor federal charges involving dove hunting over a baited field.

Fines ranged from $500 - $2000 and loss of hunting privileges for specified times. The article didn't list specifics on each individual person, but all received some penalty.
