ultimate wader repair

I think I've done it, I am pretty sure that I have discovered the ultimate wader repair adhesive.

I am so excited about my find, that I couldn't wait another minute to tell everyone about it. In fact, I haven't even tested it yet, but it looks like it is going to be the ticket. This stuff should remain flexible for years to come.

What is it, you're asking? It's the adhesive that they use to glue in replacement automobile windshields with. The labeling on the tube say: "high viscosity polyurethane autoglass adhesive" this particular brand that I have is called Progrip and is a primerless adhesive, which means that it can be used straight from the tube.

The best part is that this stuff comes in a 10 ounce tube, and it only costs about 10 bucks. The only drawback that I can think of is that it's not readily available that I am aware of at auto parts stores, or hardware stores. I got mine from a windshield repair shop.

I'll probably be testing it out tomorrow once it's dry. If I have any trouble I'll let you know. I've got about 50% of both boots covered with this stuff, and still have about 1/2 a tube left over.

Also, it's extremely messy. I would highly recommend wearing some long disposable dish gloves. So if you run into a guy who has black palms sometime in the next three weeks at your local duck hole, he'll probably answer to the name Wildfowler.... I'm afraid it's going to have to wear off my skin.

I'll keep you posted.

Wader Repair

Wildfowler, Please keep us posted on your repair. I have been using 3M 5200 Polyurethane Marine Sealant for 2 years. I would think that it would have similiar properties to the product that you are using. I used it to repair a torn place in a rainsuit and to repair waders. It has incredible adhesion properties. It is almost impossible to get it off once cured. The drawback is that it takes 5 to 7 days to cure. It can be found at hardware stores(Home Depot & Lowe's) usually in white. If you have a West Marine close by or by Mail order you can find it in black. Hope that helps out.

I have used shoe goo from walmart $3.27 a tube and it works wonders for a repair that will cure over night.

:o please let me know how the new w/s stuff works out, as I need to repair a hole in the crotch of my neoprene waders. Last year, after having cold gonads a few times, I wore rain pants under my waders. The water then went to my feet.

I would like to find out the stuff that Scuba shops use to repair torn up neoprene wetsuits. That stuff really works, whatever it is!

I just came off six years with one set of waders, Lacross Thrashers. Those of you that had them know how crappy they were, but I repaired every hole with Shoe Goo from WalMart. I would still be using them if the boot hadn't ripped.

So far, so good. But the real test will be acutall usage while hunting. If it lasts more than a couple of trips out, then I think it should last all season. I'll keep you posted.

Napa part # 4190, polyurathane windsheild adhesive. We use it to install glass on late model vehicles without trim. I have used it on neoprene waders and works real well. I have a pair with a 7 inch rip in the crotch area this stuff has worked for 2 years.

Mark, all you had to do was ask. See if you can follow this link : http://www.diversdiscount.com/resources ... tegory=166

If I didn't do it right, you can find it at diversdiscount.com. Go to the wetsuits page, then accessories.

I'm outta here to see if I can stick a deer in the next 3 days, then its quack time!

I personally like trash bags and duct tape prior to each morning hunt.

I also try to buy those neoprenes with the fewest seams.

Aw I don't know about this stuff after all. One morning and the "patch" is already starting to peel back. It may not be any better than anything else out there.

The boots aren't leaking yet, but I am afraid that it's just a matter of time before they will. Oh well, I really am committed to having to buy a new pair of waders every year. Glad I've already got mine for this year.

Shucks, I thought I was on to something big. :?

Hey CaptnT, I had a pair of LaCrosse Thrashers. They were awesome when they came out, but after a season or two, they went down drastically. I had wader repair glue on every inch of seam on those babies. Finally got fed up with them, and sent them back to LaCrosse after owning them for about 5 years, wrote them a really nice letter, and low and behold, they sent me a brand new pair of newer model Thrashers. You might try it, I thought they had a lifetime warranty, but could be wrong.
