What kind of critter is this?

A creature lives around my house. We have spotted it on multiple occasions, never long enough for a good picture or clean kill shot.

So i came home yesterday to a disturbing scene. The critter was bathing in the sludge bucket that catches grease below my grill. Then it burrowed behind my dogs box in the corner of the carport. Help me to determine what kind of monster this is in Oxford MS?

It looks a lot like a nauga to me. Back in the 70's and early 80's they were almost trapper out of existance for their hides.

maybe a ground hog. I just don't think it's tail is bushy enough. It was long like a rat. But also it might have been greased down from 6 months worth of Dales sauce caught in a bucket.

or a small nutria?

or a muskrat?

I still say ground hog. Nutria have long whiskets in the front and muskrats have a different eye and ear build.

According to what you've said, he's already marinated. I say move him from under the grill to on the grill. You can't beat a critter that bastes itself.

You need a live trap set in the garage. you can use the grease trap for bait.

Judging by the last picture I would say koala bear.

If he drinks your Foster's while he's grilling its a dead give away.

Groundhog. I don't post often, but I have some experience with those little bastards. They will strip a garden clean. I have live trapped 15 in the last two seasons.

Slices of cantaloupe work great. I can set a trap and have one in it within hours. Early morning or late evening is when they are out and about. Not nocturnal.
