BW Teal Mount

Postby MudHog » Mon Dec 15, 2008 7:12 am

I got a male and female pair from my 2nd slit opener that I'm going to have mounted. Any suggestions on mount? My taxi guy that I use is $180 a bird and 8-10 months lead time. I'm not in a hurry for them and his quality is what I expect so it's worth the $$$ and wait.

Debating if I want the traditional flying (male on top female on bottom) to hang on the wall or if I want them standing on a log and make like a shelf. Bad part of the standing idea is that the colors are best when the wings are open, so it's to thing how I can set him with his wings opened.

Maybe have him stretched out like he's flapping his wings and have her standing kind of cleaning her feathers?

that's what I was thinking. but I like the male with a wing out preening as opposed to him stretched out flapping.

Went talk with a local taxidermist last night to see some of his work. New guy and he's closer to me, so went check out his work and will end up getting him to do my BW Teal mount. I scoured the internet for pictures and here's what I'm thinking. I can't decide what I want the female to be doing.

My initial thought for the drake. Maybe have his head turned, but have one wing out like this picture.

Another option for the hen.

I came across this piece of driftwood for sale online through a company that sells driftwood pieces out of Utica, MS. Thinking of having it flat and on edge against the wall to make a shelf and have some L brackets under it for mounting it to the wall.

Comments welcomed.

Came across this and could do the female like this. Farside duck with the head cleaning the neck breast area. Kinda stretched up standing.

For me I would do a standing/preening pose, with some nice habiatat work. Put some delta duck potato in there with maybe some elephant ears and millfoil in the water. Of course that is the habitat that I kill mine in.
