In light of the changes in the SDH format, I've added the following state forums for those SDH members displaced by the changes: TN, AL, AR, LA, TX, FL, GA, SC, and NC. I would like to ask that you help me spread the word by telling your friends about these new forums.
If you are aware of other states that are in need of a place to call home, please let me know. I'll be glad to create a forum if there seems to be enough interest.
As always, MSDucks.com and DuckSouth.com will continue to be supported by advertisers and member donations. We will never require membership to particiate in the public forums.
As always, I appreciate your support of the site.
Best Regards,
Micah Walker

Humm....they gonna charge to type on there? With all of the pop-up ads, banner ads, guide listings and such...I'd say they are doing well enough without charging "members" 15.00 a year. Maybe I'm on dope. Micah, thanks for making this site THE BEST Mississippi site out there.

Micah, what about creating regional forums such as East Coast, North, Mid-west, and West Coast. This might increase the postings in those forums that might not support an individual state forum. Just a though ... I could care less since I'm a southerner but I wouldn't mind checking on how those regions are doing. JB

I know this may sound cranky, I kinda thought I was in a good mood. I kinda like the MISSISSIPPI flair.

Oh, boy, I just did the math. SDH has 11,382 members....if HALF of them paid the 15$/year that totals out to be 85,365.00!!!!!!!!!!! Does it really cost that much to run a site like that? I mean, with all of the ads..do you still need 85K to run the site?

I don't fault them for trying to make a buck, but charging for the forum is a sure fire way to kill participation and growth. If their traffic numbers drop 50%, their advertisers might be a little less likely to keep paying what they are. You can do one or the other, membership or sponsorship.
We're lucky to have our bandwidth provided for by I-55 Internet Highway and MicroSPED. That saves alot on the costs.

Wingman,
If the ads are like most of the ones I get for my sites, they are click thru or pay per click (ex. the advertiser only pays for the number of people that click on it from the site that it appears on). So, click away and make the site some money.

No, the ads are the "pay for hits" kind. You get say 65,000 hits per month...that is your ad comes up so many times per month, and that's what you pay for. Now if your 65,000 hits run out, then your ad doesn't pop up till next month. Not 65,000 clicks, mind you, but 65,000 pop-ups, whether somebody clicks on it or not. Depends on what you pay as to how many times your ad comes up. I know, I advertise with them. The guide lising ads are extra....the ones on the side of the page. Of course, Micah doesn't do that (yet) because he only has 2 of us on here...but when you have as many advertisers as SDH has, you have to rotate them....in my opinion...they have enough advertisers to not go "pay to post". But....they can do whatever they want

They might say I make enough money duck hunting to let everybody hunt free the last week in January

I would be interested to see how their membership #'s look. I would be willing to bet the not even half of those member will stay on once they begin to charge. Just as everyone else, I am truly glad that Micah has created this place for us to come read and chat.
