If I remember, some of yall have lived in the carbondale area. I was just wondering what my chances were of killing a few ducks there. I am gonna be goin to grad school there and I have been warned by the people there that the duck hunting is nothing special.

Cross the River Mississippi and enter the promised land.

I don't know much about Southern Ill. hunting, but congrats on Grad. School. If you meet a guy named Shawn working on Beavers, flip him the bird and tell him Kevin says hi.

I don't know anybody FROM Carbondale, but I went through there one time on my way to pickup a Lab puppy in Benton.

Saw the most Canadian geese I've ever seen at one time on a small lake behind the John Deere place.

Might be some good goose hunting there. :)

From everything I have heard Carbondale, IL is the poop for shooting giant Canadas period. I sure don't live there, but have been there a few times. My brother in law went to college there. I know for a fact there is public ground over there. There is a big lake there called Crab Orchard Lake, the hunting there is supposed to be pretty good. You show up in the morning and they draw for blinds, several in fields and several in the lake. I haven't hunted there before, but wish I would have when I saw all the geese there in the spring when I was up there. My brother in law said they used to absolutely throttle the geese over there in some farmers fields that a buddy of his knew when he was there. They also have ducks, but the geese get all of the attention. Carbondale is where Tim Grounds makes his living hunting geese if that tells you anything. I think you are headed to the promised land from what I have heard, but that's just my opinion.

It USED to be the promised land for canada geese. Now they have about 1 out of 5 seasons that are good. The canadas are not going that far anymore and the bulk of the migration stops around Chicago and the warm water nuke plants in N IL. The only time they hammer them anymore is when there is a big snow and extended cold to get those turf buzzards to migrate. There is some decent duck hunting around there and some public ground. Good luck
