I learned because I had to!! I quite college and went to work in a chemical plant. Rookie has to cook, that means cooking breakfast for 15 people for 7 days, cooking lunch for 15 people for 7 days and cooking supper for 15 people for 7 days. VERY SHORT LEARNING CURVE. I did this for 3 years. I did have a couple guys try to show me the ropes. Must have worked. Now my wife's parent's and mine actually ask me to come over and cook for them. Not saying I'm the best but I hold my own. If you HAVE TO LEARN, YOU WILL!!!!

MissedM,
Get you a George Foreman grill, best purchase I ever made. Buy a pack of grilled chicken breast and some Tony Cacheries (mis-spelled). Before I got married, I ate grilled chicken, grilled catfish and cheeseburger helper for supper every evening that I did not go out and they are both easy to fix. You will keep the weight off as well, eating grilled foods.
Enjoy this time of your life, it only comes around once.
Good Luck!

I agree with everyone else. YOU will learn to cook. It is not hard. Plus it is a college town and Papa John's will always have $5 pizza or coupons.
I agree about the George Foreman. Get one!!!!

I learned how to cook before i went to college. First of all start out with the easy things. Don't go try and make your own homemade recipes just yet. The easiest thing in the world to make is any kind of hamburger helper. They got all kinds of flavors for em too. After you have mastered that you can go on to try harder recipes. If you haven't ever really cooked before don't get frustrated when somthing you made comes out tasting like a terd. The best thing about cooking is trying your own ideas to see how they come out. When you get good at it you aint gonna need no book to tell you how to do it.

Grill on Sunday...eat it all week. I usually grill a combination of chicken breasts, pork chops and hamburgers every Sunday afternoon. I use a variety of sauces and marinades. I then put them in ziplock bags by flavor to be eaten later in the week. All you have to do is wrap the meat in some foil and add a bit more flavoring; then, let it sit in the over or toaster oven until it's good and warm. Doesn't taste like leftovers when you do it that way, and you have good, healthy food to eat every night without much fuss. All you have to do is fix some veggies in the microwave. Lots of good veggie choices in the frozen foods section that take minutes to prepare and are very good. Experiment with sauces and seasonings to get flavors that you like with the veggies.
Beats the heck out of the Romin noodles I existed on when I was in college! And I'm really evvious of you guys back in school now.

There are too many cookbooks to recomend. Just go to the bookstore and start looking through them. Most are based on the type cooking you will be doing. Might I suggest southern?
If you walk through the frozen section of WalMart, you will be surprised at what you will find. There are many high quality, good eatin things there. Less than 10 minutes on the stovetop or microwave. My favorite is Zatarans Blackened chicken Alfredo. It's kick azzzz. And check out the frozen veggies in a bag.
You'll find that cookin a meal is fun at times, but it is also expensive and takes time.

All you need a crock pot, a grill, a cast iron skillet, a big pot and an old southern living cookbook. A fat girlfriend helps too.

Or a skinny girlfriend that used to be fat and still likes to cook for others. Might want one that likes to clean too.
