Call or no call

Postby Quacks » Tue Jan 11, 2005 9:32 pm

When you have a bunch of ducks but they wont respond to calling. Should you call more or less? Or do you need to draw them using different tactics? If so what.

most of the ducks we have been killing have slipped into the decoys on us with the blind up or made little or no noise at all. it just depends on how the ducks come as to how i respond to them. if a duck falls in and makes a few passes i just call a little but if ducks are locked up from the big blue and falling i do nothing because the ducks are coming and need no help on making their mind up. ducks high and looking i call pretty good to see if they will break off but for the most part we have done less calling on most of the hunts just set up right and keep an eye out for them!

2 tricks.... either walk out into the middle of the decoys, or take a leak. either one is guaranteed to bring in dux
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

I have to agree with call less.

I had to yell my booty off at some fools in R-Kansas a few years back to shut the hell up and let the duck go down.
They just kept calling like they were in a compition or something.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

If you are on public land and the ducks are trying to land on someone else, then call as much and as loud as you can. You don't want others to shoot and scare them until you get a shot.

Just kiddin', after a couple of my hunts this year it seems that was the rule.

CALL LESS
