Rip,

My prediction is that Ole Miss will win this year. But with Croom at the wheel, I imagine the Egg Bowl will once again be competitive by Thanksgiving 05. Who knows, maybe sooner.

Ole Miss has a decent returning corps of players. Obviously, there is no replacement for Eli. However, Reb faithful are eager and anxious to see what Spurlock can do. The kid is athletic as all get out. Not to mention he's got a gun. However, he's seen very little action and I'm sure he'll make more than a few "green" mistakes. The good news is that the offensive line should be pretty good; hopefully this will keep Spurlock's "youth moments" to a minimum. The running game should improve due to the experience and skill of the O-line. The backs are the same and know what's up. Receiving corps should be strong, even with the loss of Chris Collins. Espy, Flowers, Johnson, and Biddle are a capable set of receivers. Throw in Nichols on the kicking unit and there shouldn't be a problem putting points on the board.

Defense is not as strong. The line only returns one starter, in D. Booth. Both Bournes and Robertson are new starters at linebacker. The much-maligned Ole Miss defensive backfield should be stronger than last year with Oliver, Robinson, and Travis Johnson returning. However, wouldn't take much to improve on last year's performance for the DB's. The good thing about this defense is it's speed. Speed kept the defense in some games last year against bigger opponents and this year's squad should be at least as quick.

Have to wait for Sept. 4th to see if anybody wants to step up and lead this team. Could be an interesting year.

I keep telling my UM buddies not to have "too high", expectations !

Nothing wrong with being "up", just don't get too high !

The thing I keep tryin to make em understand is that Eli, was and is special ! (I can say that, now that he's gone) :D

As far as "athlete' goes,... no doubt Spurlock has the edge !

Fact is,... Eli was amazing at timing, and throwing a catchable ball !
Understanding this, tells you why he was a #1 draft pick !
His athleticism, ain't what got him there !

I hope Spurlock and Connor,... start one of those Erving/Bird, type rivalries !

Should be fun to watch !

State will have come a long way by Nov.(I hope),... and they certianly have a longer "roe to hoe" than UM in that aspect !

As I have said before, ... If we look like a football team, I'll take whatever Croom delivers!

State 14 UM 10 (nope,... this ain't scientific) (more like ..."wishful thinkin")

Thanks for the reply, and good luck to ya !

Before you sling insults about hog hats, isn't this the school that got rocket scientists that figured out how to put a roll of toliet paper and a Tide box on a stick and figured out it meant roll tide, the next you know ya'll be claiming that invented the big D and the picket fence prop for "defense." what ever floats your boat. And for paying players to fill up a trophy case, ya'll win hands down, Auburn can't even be as good. Ever since I was old enough to remember seems every coach has left in disgrace and followed by some sort of probation for rule breakin. And for the lean years in Ark, yep it was a Bama boy named Ford that forgot how to coach. I'll give you your trophy collection, its impressive, but the likelihood that it will add peices regularly has been greatly diminished. As for our games they are exciting, we are never out of a game, All one has to do is look up last years Bama game on how a team cab blow a 28 point lead. Fact is you can call my stats selective all you want, just like you can them recall the glory years trophy case, and just cause you don't talk about the Bear, doesn't mean you don't dream about him  If you look at it from the outside since the SEC invited Ark to join you claim Alabama to be the class of the rest when the truth is its been mediocre by Bama standards and ya'll pale in comparision with eastern div teams, again, it must be nice to play Vandy so often, huh.

Do me a faveor and go buy ya'llselves another Bowl Game in Hawaii and then almost embarrass yourselves all over again.

I'll give you Miss boys some credit, I would take S. Miss over Vandy in our conference anyday, Bama wouldn't like that would they?

And Bama fans aren't even close to the arrogance of a Longhorn fan, makes you Bama boys jealous doesn't it.
