Hunted since 1982 and NO bands. Past 17 years I do not go as often as I used to. Got married 17 years ago!

So now, duck count might be 25 or so in a good year.

BANDS

I don't agree with the 1/100 ratio either. I wouldn't say that I have slaughtered ducks but in my eight years of hunting I would say I've killed around 300-350 ducks most of which have been in the past 4 years and all I have seen is one.About 75 have been mallards and the rest greys, mottleds, teal, and woodducks.Hopefully my day will come.So it sounds like Crackhead has shot the most at 17.

half dozen in my career, but it's been a lonnnnnng time! Seems like I read somewhere that if you kill a banded duck in a certain area that your chances are favorable for adding more to your lanyard if you continue hunting there. Anybody ever heard that? May just be a coincedence, but i no longer hunt those areas anymore & like I said, i'm on a band drought so it's not very hard to convince me that this logic has merit.

8 bands in 35 yrs, been hunting since I was 9, two on one day (new years Day 1985/ Satartia MS) and not one since, pulled off two different mallard hens in AR that buddies folded--both of course banded, lost another to a hack guest of a friend over a coin flip (he couldn't hit the ocean from a boat, I shot that damn duck!!!)

I know y'all probably don't want to hear this.......(because it might hurt your ego)

.......but my wife killed 3 banded birds in 5 shots over a 2-day period, several years back. I think it was 97-98.
Day 1: First duck - one shot - dead - banded. 'Killed next 3 birds in as many shots. Last duck - banded. So, 2 in one morning's hunt.
Day 2: First duck - one shot - dead-dead - banded.
Over a 15-day period, she and I took 5 banded birds out of 41 mallards (as I recall).
The most interesting thing.........One of the ducks I shot had the same prefix (2357) as one of hers. They were shot 8 days apart, less than 1/2 from each other. 'Got the certificates back - they were banded 8 days apart in Plumas, MB by the same bander -6 years prior to when we shot them.
Damn, that was a good year!
I wrote a story about her 'Luck' at Harden Phillips' urging - that's how I came to know Harden. He had it on his website until it went off. Another MSDucks member shot a 2357 bird that same year......10 digits separated his band number and mine - both ducks banded on the same day - in Plumas, MB. Pretty neat stuff, huh?
I've got a copy around the house, somewhere. I'll see if I can put it on here, with the photos Harden printed with it.
