The Mississippi Department of Game and Fish know how much I support their efforts but for some of you to say raise the fines and give it to the department has not thought that statement out very well. Imagine how many constant trivial tickets would be issued yearly just to support the continued rise of the cost to support that department.

Yes they need additional money and that is why I fought hard for them to issue the WMA permits. Hunter numbers are declining rapidly, more than 10,000 last year in Mississippi alone. There will be changes needed but putting their existence in the need to write tickets is a lose, lose agenda.
They are doing everything they can to promote the outdoors. It is through those license sales that will give them the needed funds to manage the states resources. You want to help then buy your kids a lifetime license, Take a neighbors kid hunting. Support the efforts they have in place and stand up for them with your representatives.
Raising Fines is not going to stop people from putting out corn. Already the economic value is changing our way of life when it comes to deer hunting. Seed industry and corn manufactures are gearing toward support of this nature. The vast majority support it for a number of reasons. To go after users in large numbers will only deflate the already degrading support that the department is getting.

BAWAHAHAHA some just don't get it.
I have never had a ticket of any kind from a Game and Fish Warden in all my 42 years of hunting. Not to say that some day I won't.
It is so easy to get in trouble without even knowing it yet some think everything is black and white.
Had a friend come to work his dog at a dove hunt in north mississippi a few years back. He had no gun, Just wore Camo and had a dog. He was written a ticket for hunting without a license. Cost him more to take off from work to fight it than to just pay it.
Last season had a hunter get a ticket for using his 4 wheeler on the WMA. Yep he crossed 10 yards of WMA land to get to our private land we had leased. We even had permission to do it from the WMA manager. However these wardens were from Jackson and he had to pay the ticket since it was not a local group doing the sting.
There are many ways to get in trouble and not know your doing wrong. You allow game wardens to base their existance on fines and every little thing you can think of will be hammered in an attempt to retain a job.
I would do the same thing if I were in their place, They have to take care of their own. That is why they don't do it already.

You know I got pulled over for doing 70 in a 55 once. The cop asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I said Yes 70.. He said the speed limit is 55. I said I thought is was 70...
You know what he said.. "Boy, Ignorance is not an excuse" and he wrote me a ticket.
I say give the Game Wardens (and Law Enforcement) the bennefit of the doubt.. They put thier lives on the line everyday..
Once in a while you'll run into a bad one, but that is just part of life..

A % of every ticket written by MHP goes toward their retirement. Not so with the MDWFP.
I thank everyone responsible for the raise MS employess got this year; it was much-needed by most. Still, the starting salary for an officer with MDWFP is about $7,000 less than a starting MHP officer. I'm not saying MHP officers don't deserve it...I think they should start out at $40,000.
That being said, I flew parts or all of 23 counties not long ago. I gps'd dozens of feeders.

If you buy your kid a lifetime license, would that not be a quick fix for money and cost more in the long run. I'm going to buy my son a lifetime license, but mainly because it will save both of us some money on down the road.
Maybe the MDWFP should make you buy all the corn from them so they could make money off the sales, they could just dye all of it green so they would know you bought it legally
. Better to get some money than none at all, kind of like alot of trucking companys don't have to stop at the weigh scales, they just agree to pay a $1 or $2 for each they go buy without stopping, the state doesn't catch them overloaded but at least they get something instead of nothing and it probably saves the truckers a few bucks from having to stop and start again.

You know what he said.. "Boy, Ignorance is not an excuse" and he wrote me a ticket.
Lame example.
Turn that around and let him write you a ticket for 56, 57, 58 miles an hour when your speedometer said 55. Vehicle speedometers are not exact. Let it get to the point where every driver drives 5 miles below the speed in fear of getting pulled over. Then you might get the picture.
Wingman I can give you co ordinance to about a dozen more if you like. As you know it is not illegal to feed only to hunt them. Camp next to us has had electronic feeders up all summer. I have never seen them remotely near them during hunting season last year. Our camp stops feeding when hunting season approaches. We proved that last year with the local game wardens pulling a sting on several of our locations.
Either it needs to be Outlawed or approved. The laws governing this practise is way to grey.

Exactly. That's why we make an extra special note when we see feeders 100 yards from a shooting house. Very few people stop filling those feeders up when rifle season begins. Not everyone is as honest as you, Duckmen.
I agree with you, we should either outlaw "feeding" or legalize hunting over it.
Food plots are in a different category in my opinion.

Not in my opinion. If I am breaking the law...then I will accept the consequences.. 56 Mph in a 55 is breaking the law... I won't like it, but I will pay it..
But I do agree on the feeding or corn.. Legalize it or outlaw it and up the penalty..

Neither of these statements is actually true. No money from tickets goes into the MHSP retirement fund. Only a portion of the fees from licence re-instatements and copies of driving records are put into the fund. And it goes into the fund not the individuals account collecting the fee.
