Yeah, but they'll still eat it. Especially if it seasons itself like this one has.

I wonder if groundhog tastes anything like ivory billed woodpecker. :?

If you can get that close for picture, get a pellet rifle and ground check it. Easier to figure out what it is then

i think you all are probably right that it is a ground hog.

i emailed some friends to see what they thought and i got some funny responses (similar to this thread):

___________________________________________________________

- a badger or just a greesed covered raccoon

- Porcupine without quills

- florida water rat

- That critter looks like a Muscrat

- Nutria, pocket gopher

-that looks like a really greasy squirrel/mini badger

- It's a troll. There's no doubt. You've better do something and fast. Good luck

- After a long night at Potbellys, i woke up with one of those in my bed

- We live in the South, where in breeding is BAD enough. and NOW we have a new president and inbreeding is RAMPANT amongst all kinds of species just to get their paws on some stimulus money in the name of equality. and that OBVIOUSLY is a inbred racoon and possum!!! If he'll get in a bucket of [EXPLETIVE] he's up to NO GOOD!!
I never found a single possum or racoon that could be trusted anyway!!! Sorta like BIG misquito's, kill em all.
I say shoot the lil [EXPLETIVE] no matter what he is!!!
Seriously though, its probably rabid acting like that anyway, so BE CAREFUL and kill the [EXPLETIVE] out of it!

He's got a different nose from the pictures of groundhog...his nose is black like a dogs nose or something??? Honestly he looks more like a squirrel in some ways.

See this video for good representation of groundhog temperment and behavior...
