Along this same topic...are there still any "joints" in the area where one can still find "native" music ? I had heard about a place in Merigold once....The Doo Drop Inn ?? There use to be a place on 61 south of Duncan....on the east side of the highway...stopped in there one evening after a duck hunt wearing our waders and camo and boy did we get some looks....We made it clear all we wanted was a stovepipe for the road (tallboy for you youngsters) and hit the highway home.... The place near Duncan burned, but there must be some around there...say between Cleveland and Clarksdale out in the country somewhere....
I know most of em are "shoot n stab" joints, but they have some good tunes in those places sometimes ! I would enjoy a spot with some live/local country or bluegrass too, but seems like thats getting harder and harder to find these days....Seems like years back, every little country town had live music on the weekends somewhere...?

Hwy 61-
Do Drop Inn is in shelby. I think it is still open but not positive. Shelby's gov't trying to close all them places down at midnight, which is tough on business. Club owners been in the local paper saying there outta business less the ordainance lifted. Anyway, as far as a real joint where u wont get stabbed, po' monkey lounge in merigold your place. willie seaberry welcomes anybody, and hes got live entertainment on monday nights.

Don, didn't mean to highjack your thread.
The Robert Johnson Blues Festival is a great idea for Greenwood.
My "cousin", David "Honeyboy" Edwards, is headlining this festival. He is one of the last bluesmen living that played the blues with Robert on the chitlin circuit. He performs some soulful old Delta blues classics on acoustic guitar.
Due to the popularity of the Sunflower River Blues Festival with blues fans, I think Greenwood will need to find a different date to have its festival in the future ----very hard to compete. Would have been nice for this Greenwood festival to have been this past weekend. I would like to go, but can't be in both places at once.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

I grew up in Clarksdale. For some reason, these blues festivals don't excite me at all. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to a good blues band, but it is something about the festivals that doesn't get me going. Maybe because I grew up there, I get tired of hearing about the blues. These festivals also bring in some pretty weird characters from around the world.
