El Nino may return in 3 months

El Nino, El Camino....whatever. I don't care what you call it as long as there is a freeze line from Saint Louis and up

We were in El nino just a few years ago when we kilt dem ducks. In those "El Nino" years, it was hot as Hades in the summer time unlike this summer.
Sound familiar?

Not so fast my fair weather friends. I may not be a meteorologist(and probably can't even spell it), but I did stay at the "Shack Up Inn" last night drinking Colt 45 quarts.

Many yankees (those north of the Mason-Dixon line), have observed signs of a cold and harsh winter for 2004-05. Among the signs are: ants and termites already doing some winter burrowing into the ground; wooly caterpillers have thicker than normal bands; hornets and yellow jackets are nesting closer to the ground; bumble bees are much smaller than normal; squirrels have bushier tails and heavier coats; cobwebs are thick and low to the ground; and butchered hen chickens are loaded with feathers. So, there you have it, irrefutable proof of a cold and nasty winter.

Now, as to critters predicting the weather, Punxsutawney Phil (the famous groundhog) will not rise from his winter's sleep to see or not see his shadow until February 2. By then the duck season will be over, the forecast a moot point, and no one will be very thrilled at the prospect of 6 more weeks of winter. So, in the interest of science, and to timely help fellow southern duck hunters, during late November of this year, I plan to start a new southern tradition by reaching deep into one of the many beaver huts in the Scatters and yanking out an ill-tempered beaver we will call "Buck Ridge Bill". Now, if Bill can't see his nutt sac, then we''ll know we are in for a cooooooold winter. But, if Bill can see his nutt sac, or bites mine, we'll know we are in for a mild winter (and I'll be calling it an early one and headin to the house to recover). Unafraid, I am willing to risk it in the interest of science.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

Bigwater, thanks for being a good sport. I just couldn't resist. I'm in the same boat and a diet ain't in the plans for me this close to hunting season.
