The 3 3/4 is the Dram Equivalency as in 3 3/4 -1 1/8 -4. Not the length.

we have a winner...........

Just thought it was kinda funny. Good for a laugh with some friends that don't know. (Yeah I have a 3 3/4 in mag Super Black Comorant that Benelli just came out with).

Estate is the only one that I have seen that stamps that on the shell instead of length.

I had a problem a few years ago with my 3 1/2 ejecting hulls. After cleaning, the problem wouldn't go away. So, I took out a Win 3 1/2", Remington 3 1/2", & an Estate 3 1/2" shell to compare.
The loaded lengths were:
Win 3 1/2" - 3 1/8"
Rem 3 1/2" - 3 1/16"
Estate "3 1/2"" - 2 7/8"....The hull was only 3 1/8" long.

So, What Estate sells as 3 1/2" shells are barely 3" mags. I have wondered if the shorter lengths were cheated like the 3 1/2s were...

Shell Length

The stated shell length is before the crimp is put in.

I understand the difference in "nominal" & "actual" dimensions. But it is still interesting how the Win's length crimped is the same as the Estate hull.

These appear to be 2 3/4 length shells that have 3 3/4 drams of powder. I used to reload 2 3/4s and this was a magnum load equal to the amount of powder in a 00 buckshot.

that's what they are, like I said most shells (even the newer estates) stamp length. On the box it stated 3 3/4 dram equiv. Just was horsing around with those old 2 3/4 shells that's all.
