I shot geese just fine 10 days ago with 3 inch 1 & 1/4 # 2's, but today I bought a couple of boxes 3&1/2 BB today to accompany me on a goose hunt tomorrow. This will be my first time to ever shoot anything that big and I want to see for myself what all the fuss is about.

I won't be buying 3 & 1/2" steel ever again. It is not worth the money. I didn't notice that I had any more knock down power with these jumbos than what I did to them with the 3" # 2's the other day.

I would like to try a couple of boxes of goose loads in Tungsten or Hevishot coupled with a tighter choke just to make sure. But the larger steel shot didn't impress me at all as having any more knockdown power.

Did get to go on a good snow goose hunt this morning.

I just converted my 2&3/4 inch 1100 into a 3 inch gun by boreing out the chamber so it will eject the hulls. In my opinion the 3 inch #3's work great for all around duck hunting.

Kinda makes me think of what I heard a boy from Texas say one day. Lookin' at another fella who was all duded up and wearing a huge hat, my friend said, "Big hat, small farm!" Meant that this ole boy was overcompensating for a lack of land with a big hat. Now, if one was to take that analogy into this conversation, what lack would the use of 3 1/2" shells be compensating for? Just funnin' cause you're huntin' and I'm not!

I finally tested out my Hevi-shot this weekend. That stuff is AWESOME. I wish the price would come down, because I really want to keep shooting it. I liked it so much that I may even try to get a bag of it to reload before the end of the season.

Hunted this afternoon with a couple of buddies in the North delta. I had a spoonbill straight overhead that had to have been every bit of 75 yards up. 1 shot = GRAVEYARD DEAD. Then I almost did a repeat, another bird was not quite as high, but it was a little further out in front of me. Maybe 70 yards away (spoony) Again, 1 shot = GRAVEYARD DEAD. I would never advocate taking such extreme shots, and I'm not saying that I am any sort of expert. But those straight overhead shots, I always feel 100% confident, or I don't pull the trigger. These two shot, I felt like I was "in the groove" and the Hevi-Shot really backed me up.

That stuff is the $#!+. Too bad I can't afford to shoot it anymore.


Oh ya, I was shooting 3" 1 &1/2 ounce # 6. Improved cyl.
