Postby blueh2o » Wed Apr 18, 2007 9:21 am

Anybody going red snapper fishing Saturday for the opening day. If you are going, where are you going from? And give a report next week on how you did. I will be going out of Gautier MS at Mary Walker Marina.

absolutely nothing wrong with specks and reds and you'll find me chasing them more than anything. I also go to the close rigs at Grand Isle for mangroves and depending on the water, GI 20 will hold red snapper.

We'll be in the water friday and start keeping snapper after midnight.
Leaving out of Douphin Island.

Leaving out of Gulfport friday around lunch, meeting several others at chandeleur. We will stay there on one boat and branch out from there. Then also try reds and specks at the island.

Made it out Saturday even though it was a little rough. I ended up leaving the center console on the trailer and hoping on with a buddy of mine on a little bigger boat. We ended up making out it out to the area we wanted to fish and found the fish on the second rig we went to. We had 24 snapper in about two hours, and all the fish were 18-24 inches. We got back to the marina and we where the only ones to catch any fish there and one of the few to make it out. I do have to say it was 3-7 footers all day long the farther we went the rougher it got.

We were sitting on out first rig at midnight friday night, Caught several there. Moved to another one, around 2 and the wind picked up along with the seas. Didnt get to make to where we wanted to, another boat out with us was having trouble and afraid he was gonna sink, so we had to head in.

Wet ride back to the back chandeleur, then got scared a time or tow bringing my bay boat back from there. did see several boats headed out saturday morning that were runing the back side of chandeleur.

total of 10 fish before our rescue mission and heading in.

It got rough on us about 1AM and we made it to a few rigs.
Came in w/ 4 legal snapper even though we caught way more that that and three 20 - 25 lb AJs.

It is rough as hell in a 27ft center console in 6ft seas. But that dang Angler handled it like a champ. The only time i was scared was close to a rig.
