Expanded Metal and Dogs Toe Nails

Postby Don Miller » Wed Oct 11, 2006 7:17 pm

Does anyone have some ideas how I can toe nail proof the expanded metal on my 4 weeler drop basket? I was thinking of spraying some kind of bedliner stuff on it. Any help would be appreciate.

I don't want to completely close off the basket so as that it holds water. I'm wanting to nail proof the sides as well as the bottom.

I bought a mat a walmart that goes under exercise equipment (eg. black rubber) . I cut it to fit the different areas and zip tied it in place. When you use seperate pieces water gets out easy enough around the edges. Does a good job of keeping mud off your gear as well. For the bottom I cut a piece that fit the front side of the drop section (near tires) and bottom and just attatched it at the top front. This way I can pull the bottom up and blast the mud out with a hose if needed. My Dad did basically the same thing but he used velcro strips to make it removeable.

Don, try this, auto zone sells a "spray on" undercoating in spray can that will rubberize if you will the metal. The holes will not seal over but it can be applied thick enough to do the trick, hope this helps.

The spray on stuff won't work it's the hole's that tear toenail's,I went to Lowe's and got 1 of thoses thick rubber mat's like they use in resterant's or other places that require standing on concreate. It has holes in it so you can zip tie it on and thick enough that nails don't touch expanded metal.Wal Mart don't carry the heavy one's and another use I laid 1 in my kenel to give some padding and air circulation under them.

What he said. I had mine done with Line X at the same time I did my truck for the very same reason as you. Closes the hole enough that it won't snag a nail but let's it drain.
