I have eaten the 3 we killed this year.

Nothing wrong with spoonies on rice fields. FACT. Guys at my club been talking bad about them for years, then this past week they decided to fry some fresh spoonie. THERE WASN'T ANY LEFT! Theat was with very lil prep too. I think its all in what they eat. I've had some terribly gamey mallard and gadwall and spooney though. All in the diet of the bird. Taste of the bird can definately be helped by soaking and getting the blood out.

Somebody tell me how to twinkle my wife's nose and klean these things.
I dipp em in boiling water for about twenty five seconds and it seems the feathers come off pretty easy after.

I had never eaten a spoonie till Tuel2 cooked some at my house two weeks ago. If he did keep the spoonies I couldn't tell it from the Mallards. I belive he did keep them cause if yall knew tuel like I do you'd know he will do anything once.

I always had a plucker available to me until last year. That's when I tried dipping the bird in boiling water...works like a charm. Other than that I just breast 'em out.

Thanks for the info on the spoonies. If I actually get to go hunting again this season and get a shot at some I'll try to take one. It'll be good to have a chance to form my own opinion.

What have yall found is the easiest way to get the lungs (all of them) out of the chest after gutting?

If I had to guess many of you have eaten spoonies without even knowing it. Especially the ones who have eaten with me.

When I clean a duck I grab the duck by the neck and pull down the feathers to about the start of the breast. then i run my fingers under the skin and peal away from the meat, then cut the breast out. About 2 1/2 mins. a duck. Oh yeah try marinating in dales and wochester sauce and then wrapping bacon around them. Then fire up the grill. you'll love it.
