Ok guys,
I am interviewing for a job that, if I take it, will move me to Cleveland. I am not very familiar with the town other than Delta State is there. I have a friend my age (26-28ish) that is from there and just moved back to the Jackson area and says there isn't alot going on there other than the school.

Here are my questions:

1. Is there anything for a single white 20 something to up there?

2. What part of town do I look for a house to rent?

3. Does anyone know of a house to rent?

4. Who is going to take me turkey hunting if I move up b4 season is over?

Where are you interviewing?

It's not a party town, but there are places to hang out. Memphis is only about 1:45 away now that they bypassed Clarksdale.

As far as a house to rent, that's dependent on what you're looking for. There's a definite "hood", just like most towns, but the vast majority of Cleveland and the surrounding area is pretty nice. I live outside of town, about 10 minutes from my work.

I can't help you with the trukey hunting though. It's fishing season.

Teul2, I am not from Cleveland, but from Ruleville ---about 10 miles from Cleveland. I have a lot of friends that live in Cleveland, and spent a great deal of time there during my youth. Your friend is misinformed.

Cleveland is a vibrant and growing city in the Delta. There are many good restaurants, night clubs, and activities going on related to Delta State within that area. For a single guy, there would be many hoochies to meet and socialize with due to it being a college town. One of my favorite places to eat is Crawdads, which is just up the road in Merigold. Another favorite is Airport Grocery on the west end of town off of Hwy 8. Each of these places has live entertainment from time to time and is a hangout for the hoochies. There are other such places as well. My favorite juke joint, and the inspiration for my board name, is the Po Monkey Lounge, located just outside Merigold. Although the Po Monkey is normally just open on Thursday nights, it hosts special events open to the public from time to time. There are many other great little "hole in the wall" type places all throughout the Delta within easy driving distance of Cleveland ---ie Lillos in Leland; Does in Greenville; Luscos in Greenwood; etc. etc.

Cleveland has a movie theater, a strong local arts scene, and if you are a man of culture, DSU hosts symphony concerts, plays, broadway style musicals, and such. Festivals abound in the Delta ---the Delta Blues Fest in Greenville in the fall, the Sunflower River blues fest in Clarksdale in August, the Leland blues fest in June, BB King Fest in Indianola, Catfish festivals in Belzoni and Leland, and Cleveland has more than one local festival re arts, etc. ----I am sure there are others.

DSU also offers a sports fan the opportunity to see college football, basketball, baseball, etc. DSU has been nationally ranked in its division in football and baseball the last few years. The DSU women have a great tradition in basketball. The "Fighting Okra" can provide a lot of entertainment.

And, last but not least, the duck hunting and other hunting opportunities get no better than in this portion of the Delta ---very close to the MS River, the heart of the MS flyway. Also, there are some excellent fishing areas near Cleveland ----Lake Boliver off of Hwy 8 boasts some great bassing and catfishing. There are numerous nearby oxbow lakes off the MS River within easy driving distance. Hunting clubs abound and are willing to take your $$$.

Now that I have written a complete travel guide for you re the Cleveland area, I will sign off.
