Got a 2011 w/ Ecoboost. Ehhhh. It's not bad, but it's not what they advertise. Idling around town, if you don't manual shift sometimes you can get a laggy feeling. The upside is, you can manual shift with just a button, it's much more responsive that way. Now, when you apply the right foot it's like a rocket, it never seems to run out of power curve or torque and I've not been able to overload it yet. Just takes some getting used to.

Mileage is only slightly better than the 5.0; my partner has the 5.0 and he averages 15-16 in mixed driving (70/30 hwy). Mine averages just under 17 mpg, but even on long hwy trips I'm only getting 18 or so.

So, while I like the F150 a lot, not a huge fan of the Ecoboost. Not agin' it, but if I was buying again I'd probably get the 5.0.

dad has the 5.0 and it's a big difference compared to the 5.4L... plenty of power and he consistently gets 20 mpg. i have driven it, but only very limited. it got some get up when you need it. i like 8)

I got an 11 ecoboost. It has a ton of power, way more than my 08 Z-71 with a 5.3 that i traded. I have had it since August and have 24,000 miles. Overall average according to computer is 16.5. Not really what i was going for. I think if you drive 55 highway it will average much better, but i dont.

Driving a new 2012 F-150 4x4 with a 5.0L for work. Do some highway, some in town, and some on the farm driving and the average mpg is showing 18.5 for me. I've only put a thousand miles on it so far though. It's got power consistant with my Chevy and other Fords I've been in. Seats are way better than the 07-09 models for damn sure.

My FIL has a '11 5.0L 2wd and he likes it. I've been reading that the EB isn't up to par at highway speeds far as MPG. Testing has shown that at 55 mph, it gets as advertised, but 75 mph it gets less.

Todo and Mudhog are correct on the EB engine; if you drive 55 the mileage jumps way up. But at 65-75 w/ the cruise set, not going to get there.

I have been looking hard at these trucks! Im more into performance rather than squeezing every MPG outta it I can. Im afraid that going from a tuned Duramax back to a gas burner would make just about anything feel like a turd, but with that new 5.0 im starting to think different. One thing I like about it is that just about any aftermarket stuff they come out with for the 5.0 mustang will be able to be bolted to the f-150...helllloooo supercharger!

Mfalkner--what gears came in your Ecoboost? Wondering if that has an effect. I think the Ecoboost is available with 4.10 gears in the max trailering pack...

I have a '11 GMC 4x4 Extended Cab (all the off road hardware of a Z71--skid plates, rear locker, extra cooling/trailering pack, etc--but in the Work Truck package) with the 5.3 and six speed trans. I could definitely tell it was more powerful than the '04 F150 I was in before hand (4.6L + 4 speed/regular cab/4x4, but off the line it felt about the same. So I checked the window sticker and saw that my truck had a 3.08 rear end. While the 6-speed trans keeps it from feeling as sluggish off the line as you might think, I think the 3.42 gear would have been a better choice--but I bought the truck based on the deal I got on it, so I can't really complain.

Best,
JSK

Yep,

Pretty much decided on the 5.0L.

Now I'm trying to find out info on the two speed auto 4wd that is standard on the 4wd lariat.

I've got 2011 5.0 liter 4x4. Good truck. 41,000 miles with overall average of 15.2 mpg, but I pull everything from airboats to skid steers. I would take it over an obama motors vehicle anyday.

I have the 5.0 in my 2011 and I am impressed with it. Go with the 5.0
