Pigs!!!!

Postby ALfwlmth » Tue Dec 06, 2011 3:12 pm

Ok, Im not sure this is the correct place to post this, but better than duck forum. I have recently seen some pigs and pig sign on my farm. I have a bag of powder that you put out to attract pigs (makes them start a wallow I think) My question is, If I put this out in the food plot they are tearing up, is it going to run the deer off? Or should I find another place and hope they come there? I don't know if it smells or they just eat it. Really don't know much about hogs other than the few I was able to persuade in college. Any help would be great!

I have seen first hand the damage these animals can do. There is no way I would do anything to attract them to a food plot I intended to hunt. I would shoot every one I saw....boars, sows, and pigs.....kill them all.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic but we had a bunch of them and have had them for the past 5-6 years, but we shot every one we could and got a guy with dogs to chase them at every opportunity, maybe all the acorns have got them spread out right now but there is very liitle hog sign that I've seen on our place right now but I'm sure they will be back, find a guy with some dogs and get after them that might help

I heard the other day that you have to kill 85% a year just to break even. Don't know if that is true or not but probably is not far off.

Put it off to the side of your plot and shoot every one that comes to it. But if they are like ours they will mostly come at midnight, rarely do we see them during the day. If you can afford it, buy a trap and bait it just don't hunt over it.

80% Was the number I heard from Chad Dacus. For deer it's about 20% I believe.

Wow! Do they fall under that rule of "Your only seeing 10% of what you actually have?" I suspect I am seeing them more now because of how high the water has gotten in the swamps around us. I know some landowners around us have them pretty thick, but this is the first sign I've seen since owning this farm for 3 years. Thanks guys, and I'll post up a kill pic if it happens. Skuna, what I saw at 350 yards looked very similar to what you have across that 4wheeler! Not sure I want to tangle with that.

U put preassure on something long enough it will leave. To kill them easy u need to dig a hole with post hole diggers bout 2 ft. Put a foot of corn in hole and soured milk on top then fill in the rest with dirt. Put a little corn around and they will come. And often! We had a lot around the house and we hunted them hard with dogs for bout 4 years. The preassure made them move off. We will catch a boar roaming thru each year but that's it. Property is bout 3800 acres.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things

If you are seeing any then you need to start killing them now.
