CVA or H and R

My dad is looking at gettting a 35 wheelen, 45-70, or .444. He asked me to take a look into these so he can shoot during the primative weapon season and possibly use them all season long. I was thinking the H and R was pretty much the only game in town but when I got to the gun shop, they only had the CVAs. He said at the gun shop they had a lot of problems with the H and Rs so they only carry CVAs now. The CVA felt like a great gun but just haven't had much time to research them. What are yalls opinion????? CVA or H and R and also what caliber? Thanks.

Have H&R 35 and 444 no problems with either so far. I like The 35 better and ammo is cheaper in 200 grain bullet.

I sell all 3 H&R CVA and the T/C. Best accuracy== T/C or CVA.
Most recoil? H&R
Most problems? H&R and T/C
Had problems with the very first CVA's as everyone did but, CVA seemed to jump on the problem and solve it better than the others did. T/C tried to modify other things to "make" it shoot regardless. Yes this worked but it sure did nothing for performance. H&R (Remington) just sat on their butts and hoped the new ammo would fix the problem. Well they never could get their ammo to work so instead they went to modifying their guns too. And the first CVA's were modified also now in fairness.
However the bugs seem to be gone with the CVA's and most of the rest if you stay with the new Hornady "Superformance" ammo. Price and recoil is about the only real difference in em now. I will say this, I've sold 15 to 1 CVA's over the other 2 this year alone! Selling both the Optima Elite Stalker and the Scout in the CVA's

I guess I'm lucky, but I've not had a single mis-fire in my Encore in 35 Whelen. I bought it a little over two years ago. I like the Encore platform, but there are definitely cheaper alternatives.

I've never had a misfire in mine either. I also didn't have all the upgrades put on mine either. I had an Encore and bought a barrel for it. Never seemed to have a problem with that setup. Only the New Pro-Hunter complete with barrels already on em seemed to be the most effected. But I did switch to the new ammo as soon as it became available. Now using the new cases it made a world of difference in how consistant my handloads are.

I too must be lucky because have not had one problem out of my H&R .35. Barnes 180 gr. = knockdown, range, accuracy, less recoil. No other gun needed.

My H & R (Handi rifle) has yet to fail to fire a bullet. The recoil is pretty stout though...but nothing I can't take long enough to get it sighted in then an occasional trigger pull at a deer. I thinking you can buy 3 Handi's for the price of a TC..just a thought.

I have fired both the TC Encore and CVA APex in 35. Whelen extensively. I would personally recommend one of those two firearms and would stay away from the H&R Handi. There is history of problems with TC Encore in the past, but I feel that these problems are no long an issue. The springs are heavier now and if you are using the Hornady Superperformance ammo you won't see any misfire issues with TC Encore.
This may sound like an odd recommendation but I prefer the Encore to the CVA Apex for this reason. The CVA has a tendency to rare up on recoil. The Encore thumps pretty good in the shoulder, but it kicks straight back and doesn't rare up at the muzzle. Of Course that is just a personal preference for me.

That's my very point! T/C modified something that really didn't need modifying! Heavy hammer springs are just asking for problems. First time you puncture a primer and/or break your firing pin you'll know why! All they had to do was correct the problem.
