For ya'll that have kids shooting a 223, what loads are ya'll using. Baby girl got a doe opening morning of youth season with Remington 55 gr psp. Hit the shoulder. Didnt exit, (although I didnt expect it to) bullet shed jacket in the entry wound.
What do yall suggest?

I asked the same question, on another site, and the Barnes triple shock bullet was the favorite.

I reload Barnes 53 grains in my 223. But Federal makes several whitetail rounds for the 223.. Just be sure that if you go with a Barnes bullet that you stay under 55 grains.. Those bullets are copper and weight less than lead so they are longer bullets and take a faster twist to stabalize them... I tried the 63 grain barnes in mine and it would not handle that long of bullet.

There are a few manufacturers that offer the TSX in their ammo. Either the 53gr, 55gr or the 62gr version. I love Barnes bullets myself and any ammo stoked with them would be my first choice.
55gr-TSX
Another 55gr-TSX offering
53gr-TSX
62gr-TSX
My second choice by a slim margin would be the Federal Fusion 62gr ammo. I have used Fusion factory ammo before in other calibers and it is almost always scary accurate and is devastating on creatures. This also happens to be very affordable ammo.
Fusion 62gr
My last choice for deer would be the Federal Premium loaded with the 60gr Partition. It will do the job but I prefer Barnes or bonded bullets over Partitions and it costs more than the Fusion ammo.
60gr-Partition
If the twist rate of your barrel is too slow then you will almost certainly have to go with the 53/55gr-TSX. But, if you've got a 9-twist barrel, then you are in high cotton as all of these options and more are available.
Good luck.

The Nosler Partition in 60 grain will get you a pass through and leave a good blood trail. They can be hard to find. Also, if you can find any remaining 55 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claws that is the ultimate bullet in 223.

I'm sure there's better bullets, but both my kids killed their first few with factory Remington core-loks and we never lost a one. Matter of fact, furthest one ran was about 40 yards, most dropped right there.
