corp shell limits
This year the corp has made a 15 shell limit on all its hunting areas, instead of just the flooded pits. There was a thread on here last year about this; when they started the limits in the pits. Most everyone was infavor of the shell limit. Now they have moved it to all their land and I guess the state will soon start it also. If they have not already done it. I don't need someone telling me how many shells I can carry to the woods.

They've ALSO placed a "Wednesday, Saturday hunting only" restriction on a few areas, too. Next, they'll go to a 'draw-hunt' system. It's only a matter of time 'til it hits your 'neck-o-the-woods'! Uh, OH!
This is the result of hunting pressure and over-crowding that I've been ranting about, that partially results from information derived over these talk forums.
'Ya'll kinda see the direction things are goin' in, here? Straight down the toilet! It won't likely improve anytime soon.....until folks realize what's causing this 'FLOOD'. Then it'll be too late. (BOO-HOO!)
Don't blame the Corps....they're just doing what they have to to manage the pressure.

Is that shell limit in effect on ALL corps run areas? or did they just pick and choose certain ones in their usual way of doing things (for no rhyme nor reason). I have never seen a bigger group of f'ups in all my life. I totally and completely agree with them imposing a 15 shell limit as long as it is across the board. I am all for EVERY place having a 15 shell limit that is deemed public, be it a National WMA, a State WMA or Corps lands. This would alleviate a bunch of the rif-raf and stop a lot of sky busting.

another thing...Where are there pits on Corps lands? I see you are from Tupelo, so I would assume you hunt somewhere in the northern part of the state. I have NEVER heard of "pits" on any corps lands. I am not trying to find a place to hunt by asking you this, I have places to hunt, and I DONT like pit/field hunting. I can only assume that you are possibly referring to "blinds" that they have nothing to do with other than the fact that they sell you a blind permit and make notes of where it's going to be located. They don't build em, don't maintain em and don't tear em down after the season is over. That's all the blind owners responsibility and they face fines if they aren't dismantled by March 1.

I know that when I was in school, there was a 15 shell limit at O'Keefe. That was over 10 years ago. I was all for it. It really cut down on skybusting.

Anatidae, I agree with you, it will definitely get much worse before it begins to get better!
However, in due time this will help weed out those that we all consider to be less desireable. TN has had regulations on the days of the week you can hunt public (WMA) land for quite some time now. In Shelby Co. you are allowed to hunt three days each week, fortunatley two of those days are week days which allows me to miss the crowds.

In response to your question dutch dog; the pits are in the becker bottom area. They are around 40 acres each. They plant them with corn, beans, and millet. Then they flood them before duck season. You can hunt them on Wed. Sat. and Sun. till noon each day. I would not encourage anyone to hunt in these areas. I have heard many bad story of these pits. Several people have been shot in these areas. Anyway; last year the pits had this shell limit on them now I see they have the limit placed on the land in becker bottom and at all the other boat ramps I have been too. The problem I have with this; is if we don't stand up soon there will be so many laws against duck hunting we want have a honest chance to hunt. I don't know why they still use lead weight if lead shot was killing the ducks I know lead weight is killing them too. Thata another topic some other time.
