Beretta vs. Franchi

Postby rawalley » Fri Oct 14, 2011 11:14 am

Im in the market for a new shotgun. Had my mind set on the beretta 3901 standard but was shown a Franchi I12 for a reasonable price. Which one is better and why?

I had a Franchi and loved it. The i12 is inertia driven like the benelli.. I now shoot a Stoeger M2000 and love it.. Same gun as Franchi and Benelli without all the bells and whistles..

From what I understand (and that ain't much), Franchi is owned by benelli and contains all of the parts and attributes that benelli guns have. The main difference is that Franchis are not assembled in Italy. I've heard a lot of good things about them. Guys, correct me if I'm wrong.

Go to the Benelli website.. You will see links to Franchi and Stoeger on there.. Its kind of like Chevy, GMC, Cadillac..

Franchi has a rebate going right now.

I know two guys who own the I12, and they have had major problems out of them. I would go with a stoeger m2000 if I was going that route. I had one and put a lot of rounds through it before I had some problems out of it. But to be clear the stoeger and franchi inertia systems are most definitely not the same as a benelli inertia system, speaking in terms of quality.

Im gonna rephrase the question:

If you were about to buy one of these which one would you pick.

Beretta 3901 or Franchi I-12

Call Lee Thomas, Professional Gunsmith and factory trained with over 36yrs of experience and ask him about Franchi. (662)429-3701. The guts of the gun are subpar. I owned one.

I agree. Dad was having that exact same question between a new Franchi and Beretta. Both our gunsmith and gun fitter said the same thing about Franchi internal parts...especially those from the past 5 years or so.

I own a little Franchi O/U that I would trade for anything and is crazy consistent and reliable, but I wouldnt buy the semi made in the past few years for anything.

Lee disassembled my Franchi and then a Browning Gold to simply show me the difference in the action and the recoil spring. It was like comparing a .410 to a 10 guage. It may sound cool to be shooting a Franchi but that's where it ends when your shooting 3.5" shells. My action broke about 10 boxes in to a new duck season about 4 years ago.
