I have one and it is the real deal.. It is a twin turbo 6 cyl. It has more torque than the v8. I have pulled everything with my ecooboost that I pulled with my old 5.4. The ecoobost pulls these things better and gets ALOT better fuel milage while on the hwy, in city or pulling. The power is no comparision either. I would buy another any day of the week and wouldn't ever think twice.

there is a video on Ford's website of a 100k mile endurance test on that motor and truck. they put it through hell for a little over a 100k miles and pulled everything imaginable during this time, then they tore the engine down to see how the wear and tear was. That is a bad ass little motor that will get it. I'm going to purchase one in the near future. You can expect close to 19mpg out of that motor, not 24 like they state.

several guys on here have that truck

I just bought my wife the 2012 Ford Explorer with the Ecoboost and to say the least it is bad. That thing will flat haul the mail, as for as speed, and you don't even realize it. I don't intend on pulling anything with her Explorer, but would not think twice about doing if need be. She is averaging 22 miles per gallon with hers. The main reason I bought it was she wanted the Explorer, but she wanted a V8 and I know how heavy my wifes foot is and the gas mileage would kill her, so we went with the Ecoboost and both parties are very happy.

just my $.02

I just bought one about 2 months ago. Like someone else mentioned, watch the torture test videos and drive one. I can say without a doubt it is the fastest hardest pulling stock truck I have ever driven/ridden in. You can get decent mileage if you can keep your foot off of it but I wouldn’t buy it if you think you are going to save a ton of money on fuel compared to other ½ ton rides. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it as a daily tow rig and or farm truck. I have been chevy man all my life so it was a tough pill to swallow. The mistake I made is when the salesman let me take the truck home for a few days. After that I was sold.

Car and driver says the Ecoboost gets 16/23 chevy 5.3 gets 15/21. So I don't see a big difference there.. Does seem to have more torge and HP. I might be a little scheptical of the at first.

Yep and any aftermarket performance parts you put on are usless until you get the programmer bc the ecu will just refigure

You right! NO SUBSTITUTION FOR GOOD OLD FASHION HORSPOWER OTHER THAN CUBIC INCHES! You can make little motors sream thru the roof! You can get both H.P. and torque figures up close to the bigger cubic inch motors but it won't perform the same. No substitution for cubic inches! If it were you would see it in racing! Ain't gonna happen! If you put that little motor in the max hp range max torque range (rpm wise) and keep it there two things are gonna happen.
1. Fuel millage is gonna go to hell in a hand basket

2. It won't make it out of it's warrenty period before a major mechanical issue!

Automakers know most people won't do this and it's their out to make products look more appealing. But for good ole fashion work you still can't beat the other. SIZE DOES matter in some things!
