Man Rules
I have just spent 5 days working around the house doing a bunch of maintenance that nobody likes, but all of us need to do from time to time. These home repairs included: mending a fence, replacing a board of the soffet, patching walls cracked by foundation repair, painting a couple of rooms, and retexturing a ceiling.
All of these projects got me to thinking philosophically. I know that there are some rules that all men just need to know; like, how to tie a necktie, how to change a flat tire, basic first aid, etc.
What I'd like to know is, what are some of your 'Man Rules'? In other words, what are some things that you believe all men should be able to do? Let's hear 'em.

Nobody owes you anything.

Re: Man Rules
You know I was thinking about this the other day and the importance of teaching your children how to work and do things with your hands. I grew up without a father so the majority of the things i've learned over the years, have been from reading either on line, or spending time helping others as they do things around the house, shop, or farm. I'm proud to say that at 27, there is not much out there that I can't do and I hope to teach my children the same things i've learned through the years. I've learned how to do all forms of carpentry work(worked with a homebuilder for 2 years in college), anything there is to do on the farm(did this all through highschool and also through college when homebuilding was slow), welding, rebuilding motors and carbs. Men should be able to do anything in my opinion. There is too much knowledge out there on the world wide web to not at least try.
It all starts with parenting and teaching your children what you've learned. I don't change my own oil anymore, because its cheaper to take it to the shop and have it done in 15 minutes vs. me doing it myself, but you can bet your soul that my boys will know how to change the oil in their car and change a flat just in case they need to one day.

That statement alone is priceless. I will attempt to fix or make anything because I know the vast amounts of information out there and if I some how mess it up, there is someone who knows how to fix it. I found step by step procedures on a Ford Heater Core replacement after the service dealer for Ford said this job could not be done unless in a shop. He was wrong.huntersmky wrote: There is too much knowledge out there on the world wide web to not at least try.
What bothers me the most is we have an almost endless supply of information at our finger tips whether it be our phones, lap tops or home computers and folks still ask some of the dumbest questions alive. "how do I......" or "what is the price for.....".
Had a friend the other day call me "hey man, I'm looking at your address on Google maps at the house, how do I get to your house". I hung up the phone without responding. A little common sense in today's "Information Age" will get you a long way.

I picked some friends up at DFW airport last spring...first thing they asked as we left was where are we goin (we were headed out to stephenville tx) I said out to stephenville....they go where's your GPS, I say I don't have one....they freaked out....and then were amazed that I had a map and read road signs

Re: Man Rules
This could turn into quite the list!
The big thing to me that every man should know is how to learn. When I encounter something I'm not able to do, I try to learn how.
Along those lines, one of my all time favorite quotes is from my grandfather (or at least that is where I heard it): "A well rounded man knows something about everything and everything about something." I guess I've still got a long way to go on both counts, but it's a good guide post!

Re: Man Rules
1.) men should know how to hunt ethically!!!!!!! they should know how to id their game, clean their game, and be able to cook their game!!!
-I know too many people that are in it simply for the kill, and not the enjoyment of the hunt, the food value, and the sharing of the
sport with others.
2.) Men should take responsibility for their actions!!! all to often in todays society men are the first to blame someone else insted of taking the blame for their own actions.
3.) Men should lead their houshold! this means sometimes sacrificing personal wishes to ensure that the needs of the family are met whether finacially, physically, or emotionally (for the wife, children, or self)
4.) A man should always strive to better himself and others ( Good is never Good Enough!!!!!)
5.) A man should say what he believes, and stand up for it, and not be pushed over!!!
6.) A man never hits a Lady ( i personally go by the 3 strike rule, 1. you hit me once, i forgive you 2. you hit me twice, i say thats your only warning 3. you hit me the third time, i say you just grew balls and are no longer a lady but a pure bred biotch and i gonna beat you like a man!!!
thats my basic list

If you can't do it without even a compass you need to stay out of the woods or at least near the road! Trees lean south, Moss grows on the northside of the tree. Who needs a compass? Also a compass don't know where the shallow spots in the sloughs are either. That only comes with experience!rjohnson wrote:, be able to walk into one side of DNF and out the other with nothing more than a compass
