Anatidae's 2011 Migration Prediction

Postby Anatidae » Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:09 pm

My bold, uneducated guess.......

The migration is going to be LATE........again   .

Not much cold air over the Canadian Prairies - 15-day forecast not looking very 'conducive' up there - highs in mid-60's to low 80's. Lows in the 40's and 50's.

SK October: Predicted -Warmer and dryer than average - first snow around 3rd week in October. (We'll see - bring it on!)

Good news.......harvest is going well, which probably means ground will be cut-up - no standing stubble. It's just as well....... snow geese will over-fly and hit farther South, earlier......like last year. Good!.......More room for fatheads and honkers. 8)

Snows starting to filter into Mid-latitude SK.

Key to success: Adaptability......again

I'm gonna send you a pic we took of a john boat and a plywood sign on the side of the flooded highway at Estevan.

Along with the cooler temps comes Anatidae's migration theories, and you know winter is just ahead.

My crew still has quite a bit of work to do this year to get ready, so although I am not looking forward to that part, I am truly looking forward to the season getting here this year. Work has been something else and I need the escape for sure. I can't wait to get out there, whether the birds are on time or not! Also, really looking forward to Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday.

going to be a different year for me. Not having the entire month of Dec and most of Jan to hunt because of school being out for Christmas will be a change. Welcome to the real world! Still looking forward to the season. I'll be burning up the south delta hopefully.

First sub-32 temps are predicted for the 8th of October. By October 16th last year, everything was frozen solid (mid-lat SK) the snows had already moved through and we had to contend with 8" of snow a week later.

A lot can happen in 2-3 weeks........but if it's going to benefit duck hunting in Dixie, it better happen soon. It's in the low 80's up there right now (daytime). 'Will start dropping-of to mid-to-high 70's this week.......but low's only in upper 40's to mid 50's.

we are leaving thursday for NODAK to hunt for a week or so. We are getting reports of lots of water and lots of birds.... no real surprise of that report except the reports we are getting is that they are holding more blue and green wing teal than they normally see this late. supposedly more geese than they normally see. in the days we are supposed to be there the lowest temp i see is forecasted at 35 and we are supposed to return on Oct 6 or 7 depending on how we do. the upland bird numbers are down drastically from what im hearing due to some hard hard weather last year. ill have a report and hopefully so photos in a few days.

oh yeah them holding the teal explains the worst teal season i have seen in 7 years.... didnt limit one single day, normally limits are the norm in sept teal season.
