GPS Advice

Postby timberhunter » Tue Sep 13, 2011 11:19 am

I am looking for a new GPS for my personal vehicle. I am a volunteer firefighter and am constantly dispatched to some pretty foreign addresses that my current tom-tom is unaware of LOL. I work out of Winston County and if I followed that d@mn thing last night I would have ended up in a fire ball myself  .

Here are a few things I am looking for out of the unit:
1. Fast satellite recognition
2. Accurate directions (including all the back-roads)
3. Long battery life for when I throw it in the pumper
4. Just in general a good operating system

Anyone had success out of the Garmin or Motorola models?

Thanks For The Help!!

Just get a case of beer this weekend and ride those backroads. Least that's how we used to do it.

The Garmin Nuvi's are pretty good. We have one. I don't know how easy it would be to find any of them that will have ALL of the Mississippi backroads in them. Maybe there's some software out there that you could get to update that.

I don't wanna end up on the other end of the call LOL. I know most of the beer drinking roads in my district. But when 911 calls out "Bill's Green Pasture Rd" and ya can't even find it on the county map ya kinda get in a sticky situation. Plus we also respond to adjacent counties to supply backup.
