Re: WMA rules and changes
As for the waterfowl draws they are going to pre-draw for every unit and only way to do standby is if someone does not show

Re: WMA rules and changes
I just wish they would clearly post the rules and process. As it is now, everything is scattered on the mdwfp website and you can tell if the material is up to date or something from several years ago.

Click on the link on the right side for 2011-2012 waterfowl draw hunt changes. It has the new draw system. Say goodbye to standby hunting as we know it.

Re: WMA rules and changes
I know several guys on here have been opposed to the draw long before now, so I'll preface this with "Yes, you told me so."
But they say the main reason they are doing this is to increase hunter participation. I say that's bull%$( and this is why:
If overall hunter numbers on WMAs across the board go DOWN this year, do you think they will retract the $5 per draw system?
Hell no they won't, because this has nothing to do with hunter participation. What kind of idiot says, "Hey Joe, how do you think we can get more people to hunt these here WMAs?" Joe says, "Charge em $5 a hunt."

Re: WMA rules and changes
The 5 dollars is not the issue, like we said at the meeting, we will GLADLY pay whatever cost they throw at us. But they don't need to paint this picture to be about trying to appeal to hunters who otherwise wouldn't show up because of the chance of not getting picked. Bottom line is, we risked it every morning, knowing there was the chance we would spend the morning at the waffle house vs. hunting. We still showed up, we still drew, and we still took the risk.
It's all a crock of $#!+ if you ask me.

Re: WMA rules and changes
I grew up in MO and virtually all of the state managed areas are drawn--it's horrible. Fight like hell to keep them out of the draw system. Beleive me, they will keep adding rules on top of rules until it's just not any fun. Come to think of it, the most "un-fun" thing there is to this type of hunting is anticipating the hunt, but not being able to hunt. I limit my hunting in MO because of this.
AR has it right, everybody on thier own. There are certainly issues with this style, but so much better than the draw.
It's far easier to keep the draw system out than remove it. fight like hell to prevent.
The draw system will be worse than you think it is--I promise
