Browning BPS and Super X Pump question

I have a BPS 12 gauge 3.5 duck blind....nice shooting gun...reliable....but one problem...a Browning/Winchester tech told me that the gun is designed to shoot 3 inches high at 20 yards???? or something like that. WHY would a gun manufacturer design a shotgun NOT to shoot point of aim? It is a real pain when it comes turkey season just because I know that I must shoot for low waddles if I don't want to shoot over him at 40 yards. If I remember correctly...the tech told me that shooting high helps with wingshooting.....wish I would have known this beforehand even though I shoot well with it. I have always shot point of aim shotguns and never had a problem....knowing my gun shoots high causes me to think about it too much. I love the quality and simplicity of the BPS...thats why I bought it....very well made. Can anyone help me make sense of this? Every other person I have talked to says that theirs shoot high as well....perfect left and right but just a little high. My next question is has anyone had any experience with the new Super X Pump by Winchester? And does it shoot high also as I have heard that they are made by the same company now? I may sell my BPS and get the Super X Pump if it doesn't.....real bummer cause I love the action and quality of this gun. Please help shed some light on this for me....thanks!

3 simple rules for Vertical Point of Impact:

1. With any shotgun, if you position your eye low along the surface of the rib, the gun will shoot to some Vertical POI that's natural for you and that gun. It might be a relatively flat POI, or it might not. Only you can determine what it is by actually shooting the gun.

2. If you raise your eye higher (pick whatever method you like to achieve this), your POI with that gun will be higher than it was before. Reason: your Line of Sight now angles downward more steeply than it did before. We still don't know exactly what your new POI is, but it's safe to say it will be some amount higher than whatever it was when your eye was lower.

3. Gun manufacturers can control the lowest possible POI with any shotgun by the geometry of the rib they put on it. Rib slope is the key . If a manufacturer equips a gun with a rib that angles steeply downward toward the muzzle, it forces your Line of Sight to also angle downward by at least that amount. A steeply sloped rib will likely be a high-shooting gun for nearly everyone who shoots it. Of course, even with a steeply-sloped rib, you're free to raise your eye above the rib surface and achieve an even higher POI.

Thanks for the help! I imagine if I shimmed the stock down a little it would help my instinctive shooting but my line up is what bothers me...it's perfect left and right just a touch high when shooting "precisely" for a shotgun

If the gun is shooting high you should be able to adjust the drop cast and help align your sight picture more in line with the rib. I would personally look at stock adjustment options if you like the gun. It is possible that it is more the fit than the gun itself.

I have a BPS that I have been shooting for ten years now and have never noticed anything. But I don't really think when I shoot either except with turkeys. Never had a problem with turkeys either and most all of them have been at or just beyond twenty yards. I really like to think that when wing shooting it is more instinctive than anything.

Thanks for the replies....have you patterned your bps? Just curious if this is a new rib design? I have lowered my eye on the rib to where u could barely see the bead but still a little high....I put a truglo front sight on it which fixed the problem but it sits high on the end.... I shot no bead shotguns for years but they both shot point of aim. I may shim the gun when I get some time just to correct my instinctive shooting and just be happy with the front sight. I advertised the gun on here thinking about buying the new super xp but if it has the same situation on rib design I may refrain. We have an 870 turkey special that does the same thing...even worse. So I know that rib design must have something to do with it ... Y'all have been helpful
